DR1 425/17 colours

I was wondering what people’s views are on the undersurface colour for the red barons last seat is? From Alex imrie’s excellent book The fokker triplane, it seems that the whole aircraft is red,[in the picture it is one shade apart from the rudder which is white] but some sources say it has a turquoize colour for the undersurface. what do you guy’s think?

The legend and all reference I’ve read/seen about it suggest an overal red scheme… The fabric of the Dr.1s (kind of light cream in color) was normally painted with over at the factory to give it a ‘streaky’ appearance, then applied to the subassemblies, giving a non-uniform camouflage, but undersurfaces were normally left unouched. Having said that, a lot of reference suggest light blue for the undersurfaces too…

It is possible that Richtoffen’s last warplane was specially painted at the factory…

By the way MRex, have you considered this…

Hay that was an awsome link thank you very much.
I’ve been building my revell 1/72 dr1 [the new one that is] and found it very good. It’s not often you get a resonabley detailed kit for that price! Anyway it’s looking good i’m only sorry i can’t give you guy’s a picture i don’t have the equipment. I’m even painting over the existing decals to match the balenkrauze of the original looks really authentic. I might be doing a diarama with the airfeild and a hanger tent next.

Looks like you’re having a ball, Mrex… Keep us informed of your progress!
