DowneastCon 2005

so any of you north easterner modelers going to attend DowneastCon 2005 in biddeford maine? im only 17 and it will be my first competion ever! too bad i have to compete with the adults, aka im going to get smashed. but it should be cool to see some other people work and spend some $ at the vendors section. seya there
matt from portland

Good luck Matt! What/How many will you be entering? Who knows, you may even be asked to be a judge yourself. It’s not uncommon for them to ask for people to volunteer as judges. If they do you should do it. Then you’ll see everyone has equal chances and the models are judged on thier own merits.

Matt,

I’ll be atttending. Probably wont get there until mid morning early afternoon though. Look for me. Ill be wearing an AMPS 04 t-shirt, and im about 5’11" w/ long brown hair.

Matt.

Im only 15 so I dont think ill be entering anything as of yet. Still gotta finish up a lot of builds.

ill probably be entering about 2 tanks and one diorama. i have a few other tanks, but is it best to leave them out if they arent up to par with your other ones?

so, downeastcon is this weekend, anyone else from here going? theres gotta be more!

Matt,

Well i finally know that I can definatley go. Again look for me in the above description. I’ll probably be going in the late morning to mid day, so i can do something in the afternoon ( read build).

Regards
Matt

ok cool, probably seeya there then. im 17 and ill more than likely be wearing my Pow/Mia t-shirt and a pea coat.

oh man, were supposed to get another 10inches of snow tonight. damn, i hate snow so much. im still gonna go because i only like 40 mins away, but i hope people still come, it woulndt be too much fun to win becasue lots of people didnt come. uhhh

Matt,
Now that this storm has come about, im not sure if i’ll be able to make it. We’ll just have to see in the morning. If the roads arent too bad in the morning, say around 0900, then ill probably head up north that way. I gotta go early in the day cuz i got plans with some freinds later in the day/night.

Hopedfully i can go.

Cya There ( Maybe)

Matt

I was going to attend this one this year , but I am right in the middle of packing up for a move .
To Biddeford of all places .

I don’t have any models ready for it anyhow .
2 are not even on bases yet , one still needs fixes . One needs the interior lighting set up .

Maybe next year , …I do want to be ready for the Conn. show which is usually pretty big .
The damn snow will keep me from even showing up unfortunatly .

Are you as sick of this winter in this part of the country as much as I am ?[:(!]

If you go ,good luck , I am sure you will do well if you have listened to any of these fantastic modelers in these forums .

If you do show up I may see you there ,…I am curious to see what is up in the Maine competition , I may go if the weather lets up a bit .

it sounds as if its still on(they already paid for the hall) im still pretty new to modeling (1 1/5 years) but i think it will be good experience. i dont have a very good camera, but heres what ill be bringing along. have you been before? are there any decent vendors that come?

I hear the vendor side of this is not as good as it used to be ,…

Mainly cuz’ most yankees are cheap , and the vendors don’t make a penny .

Good luck on your entries , I hope to make it down there to view anyways .[8D]

considering that it was snowing like a beast ,it was pretty good. i ended up taking 3rd in figures and 1st in diorama. there were some great tanks. someone had a beautiful sherman bulldozer that didnt even place! it looked great. the vendors were actually pretty good. one guy had so much stuff i had no idea what to even look for! i swear to god he had the whole verlinden catalouge. i ended up picking up some MIG pigments and a house from custom dioramics. im hooked!

Well there you go, big time congrats to you Matt. Way to go. What were you competing against in the Dio category.

I knew you were a sandbagger LOL!!! Never play poker with a sheepish player who says “Oh I don’t know how to play very well but can I join in”

I hope Ron and the guys up there did well, they put on a good event. It’s always a big worry doing an event like this and a taking a financial beating can swamp a club.
As to Yankees being cheap and keeping the dealers away, my club’s event has filled as many as 47 vendor tables for a local contest and I ahd to turn vendors away for lack of tables.

Well, I was going to go, along with the rest of my club. But the weather kept us away.
How many people actually showed up? Not many I bet.
