Double your fun .... the twins are done!

Two, count em … two 1/72 scale Matchbox Do-18 “Gathering Storm” flying boats. One is for me and one is for a paying customer. All decals are custom made, interiors are detailed with Reheat instruments and Eduard seatbelts. All interior goodies are visible through the upper cockpit windows. Exhaust ports are drilled out and staining is done with a combination of ground chalks. Panel lines are accented with a sludge wash. I did not want them very dirty as at this time they would have been maintained very well. Those Jumo 203s just make a horrible mess and that cannot be easily and quickly cleaned off the wing. Later models sported a pair of black elongated triangles on the wing to hide this staining. Hope you like.

Wow,those look great!Never seen that A/C before

Well done, swanny! Been waiting to see those bad boys done! oh by the way, maybe in the future you could build a small diorama base with the plane over water. just my [2c]

Great Job!

Very nice builds and very colourful, too.

Two more excellent builds to add to your resume of great models. Thanks for sharing.

Very interesting aicraft ,i like them ,thanks for the Peek swany !!

Well done Swanny.

They are looking nice, very intresting aircraft.

Do they lay on there hull or is there a tiny dolly underneath?

Graet builds Swanny. Very nice work. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome planes and a great job presenting them .

Beautiful looking planes there. Are they pre-war or mid war craft. I have never scene those planes before either.

Paul

Wonderful job on both the builds Swanny.

Excellent job Swanny! I built one myself as a boy, but mine looked… well different [:D]. That just goes to show what a little (actually a fair bit, I read your build report) tlc can do to a humble Matchbox kit. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Thanks for the kind reports guys.

RadMax8, yes, I should build a water diorama. I’ve been looking into the various way of making water and may attempt that soon.

RemcoGrob, I built small stands for each of them to rest on and painted them flat black. I did look at some pictures of beaching dollies used with these but didn’t feel like scratch building two of them.

HastyP, These are pre-war schemes hence the “Gathering Storm” title. Both German and American naval planes were painted in a very similar patterns until hositlities broke out. This is my 1/72 Sikorsky S-43 from the same time period.

Flilibert Kraxner, yup - lots of TLC. Probably could have used some more if truth be told but ya gotta draw the line somewhere.

I always liked the shape of the Do-18…with that funny waist bulge…
Nice looking planes, mate…and all the better that one goes to a paying customer. Imagine…getting PAID to do a hobby!! It’s not normal, is it?

Wow, spectacular builds.

Great looking buils Swanny.

Karl

Is it just me, or is there anything ominious to “RUN” and “HIS” before the “D-A” on the wings? Such as telling the difference between the two aircraft, like one is his aircraft and one you run with?
This is just a theory but I was curious about them.

Bravo!. Once again, masterfully done models by Swanny! I’ll take this opportunity to thank you for always sharing your expertise with us here in the forum.
