as promised this thread is to finalize the build of double trouble.
this b-24j was assigned to the 493 rd squadron. i recieved two letters from crewmen of this bird. it was a bird used my many crews. Ross Noltimier was a copilot for Bob Lindquist for three missions of double trouble. one of these missions was on 2-5-45 to the kanchanaburi bridge and bypass bridge, about sixty miles nw of bangkok. this mission was later imortalized in the movie bridge on the river kwai. the third mission was significant as it was an azon mission, guided bombs.
the second letter was very much pleasing to me. this letter, from mr. frank nelson, included two items. a book and a picture. the book was given to him by the mfg of b-24’s. the picture is of “double trouble” in flight.
my project began there. with the information provided i began to build my subject. i began with minicrafts b-24j in 1/72. i scratchbuilt two seats and added some wiring. not much really. the build went smoothly and this is the finished product.
many thanks. on a side note. this bird recieved an invitation to the reunion of the crew. although i wont have the money to go it appears, it was humbling none the less.
Nice Job on the Liberator Joe. It’s neat to have some personal connection to the build that you’re working on.
It’s a shame though that the interior detail is so covered up. The same thing happened with the 1/48 B-24 that I closed up. It was a little depressing to glue the two fuselage halves together. Thanks for the pics.
Congrats on completing this one, Joe. A job well done. It’s too bad that you were unable to attend the crew’s reunion.
Thanks for sharing the build with us.
