dot filtering?

Hey guys, I’m getting to the weathering stage on my German KV-2 and I have been practicing dot filtering. My problem is I can’t tell if there is any difference after application. I know this subject has been beaten to death, however I thought I’d reach out to you. Does anyone have before and after pictures they can post? I am trying very hard without results. I know practice makes perfect, but I figure you would know. I’m thinking of abandoning the effort, however I would like to get a handle on it. Thanks very much.

I just thought I’d ask the experts

Scott,

In one word (well three) Less is more…Better to be on the safe side and have to repeat the process, than areas of over filtered surfaces. Specially with blue and yellow, you have to take care not to over-do it. Normally I pre-wet the surface with some white spirit, then I apply a very small dot of oil paint and then I dillute and blend it in with a brush with white spirit. If you build up your layers, you’ll find out that it’s very controlable and you will end up with the desired result…

Good luck, John.

John, Thanks for the advice, I certainly will follow it. Once again, thanks for taking the time to reply.
