dot filtering on aircraft

and dot filtering be use on aircraft? cause I’ve only ever seen it done on armor.

thanks in advance!

Yes! I’ve used it and really enjoyed the results. Take a gander, about halfway down the page: /forums/2/706934/ShowPost.aspx#706934

that looks pretty cool, maybe I’ll try it

Did you apply the oil dots over a flat finish or over something like Future? I was checking out the article in the FSM about the Tiger model and the dot filtering used on it. It looks like the oils were applied directly over flat finishes which, in this case, I presume were acrylics.

Oh, no! The whole idea of the filter technique is to lay a thin glaze of random colors over the base coat. A flat coat would yield a blotchy mess (maybe a good thing on a tank)- you’d do best to apply a gloss coat. I use good ol’ Future, or Pledge or whaddevah they call it nowadays. A nice, smooth arcylic barrier between your base colors and the weathering is the pain-free way to go, kamerad! Go forth and lay down some random beauty!

also depends if your basecoat is enamel or acrylic. I have only done the technique once; enamel basecoat, Future, oil dots, odorless thinner. At the end I sprayed few light layers of Testors Dullcote (was an aFV). If you use acrylyc basecoat, no need for Future barrier.

What color dots should you use or does it not make a difference
