Dog Sabre

Hey, guys! I haven’t finished a model since last year, but I couldn’t resist and I just picked up Revell’s F-86D in 1/48 (it’s supposedly the rebox of the Monogram-promodeler kit), and some of the colors have strange names (You, see, I’m used to Academy and Tamiya). I was wondering if you guys can translate some of this to the tamiya color chart… [:)]
Here are the colors listed that i couldn’t decipher:

  1. Anthracite Grey, matt
  2. Mouse Grey, matt
  3. Tank Grey, matt
  4. Leather Brown, matt
  5. ‘Lufthansa’ Blue, sliky-matt (Silky matt?!? Rather specific aren’t they?)
  6. Patina Green, silky-matt
  7. ‘Lufthansa’ Yellow, silky-matt
  8. Nato-olive, matt (I suspect this is just olive drab, but one never knows)
  9. Light Olive, matt

And here is the Tamiya color chart:

Oh, and any color interior shots are more than welcome!

Thanks in advance [:D]

See if you can find a Model master-Tamiya conversion chart. MM makes a color called leather. Tank gray is probably a “Panzer Gray”. The “silky matts” are semi-glosses their FSN starts with a 2. I’ll try to help more when I finish my final.

Hey Shrikes,
On a best guess : silky matt would be like semi-gloss

  1. no idea
  2. like xf20
  3. like between xf19 and xf25
    4 xf52 or xf64
    5 xf23
6 x15 (like a copper or bronze patina)
    7 no idea
8 If I remember correctly Nato Olive is fairly dark so xf5 would be close
  4. xf4 looks close
    Hope this helps

Hey Shrikes are you doing that for the NMF group build. I forget who is doing what? If not think about it. Take care. Good luck. I have that kit myself.

Jim: I dunno if this will make the dead line for the NMF GB. after all i am still doing the B-17G and F-86F… I’ll drop you a note if and when it’s finished by halloween. [:D] btw: Any pitfalls i should be aware of and what color are you using in place of anthracite?

Hey shrikes,
I’ve got the old Humbol paint conversion chart at home, I’ll be able to give you the info later, by the way Revell Germany uses Humbrol colors as for referance, like Hasegawa uses Gunze colors

I wont be doing mine for a while either so I don’t know. i know I need to get some decals as the ones I have are too dark.

Courtney: Thanks for the assist, and good luck with your finals! I’m surprised you’re even posting… Then again, you do multi-task. [:D] btw: How’s the Dog handler shaping up? Still waiting to see that one. [;)]

Cuda: That would be just what i need!! Where did you get that?

Jim: What decals are you going to dress yours in? I think i’ll do mine in PAF colors again!

Thanks shrikes. I took my German final this morning. I have one scheduled for thurs. 2 for fri. and 2 to turn in by fri sometime. I usually have the forum, solitaire, and a paper up in 3 windows and a book or x-stitch(currently a christmas bell pull) in my lap. I have no attention span and when I have to focus on just one thing it makes me crazy. I get stuck or frustrated on one thing and I go on to something else. Work periods are minutes. This post has been interupted by: 4 card moves, a patch of tan, and formatting an artifact chart.

I hope this will help you with the Differences Between the Two, and I know that both companies may have changed the names of the color and added a few more but the chart was made back in the 80’s but it’ll give you some help

That list would probably find a nice home on the new ref forum, cuda. I’ll need it later when I open my dog sabre. I think I have that same kit, shrikes.

cassibill,shrikes;
well when you get there I’ll still have it for you, and will rewrite on the forum just like todays, so don’t frett also I have the Revell/Monograms F-86D and if you need those colors they call out in FS #'s I’ll be more then happy to give them to you all

Shrikes I duno yet. Havent even given it much thought.

I’m doing mine as Col. Quirk’s bird.

I do know that MM makes the Anthracite Gray…it’s really just metallic Gray, but it is a nice color, I use it frequently. The closest color for that I think in Tamiya is XF-56

Hi Shrikes! Nathalie carries the Revell Paint range. You can check out the colors and and see which is the nearest equivalent to Academy and Tamiya
