Doesn't stick

I need some help with the miniguns for my MH-60L project. I bought the MRC/Academy UH-1C “Frogs” for the vinyl ammo feed chutes, but I’m having trouble getting them to stick onto my miniguns. I used sheet sytrene for the feed ports on the minigun and I’ve used QuickTite Superglue and Testors Liquid Cement, but the bond is too weak and breaks off when I handle them. [banghead] Any advice on how to get the [censored] vinyl to stick?

I don’t think anything will stick vinyl to something else and allow handling. I suggest that you add the feed chutes last, using something like Future floor wax or a high quality white craft glue like Sobo, to stick it in place. You’ll have to hold it there until the liquid dries, but at least it will dry clear and keep things stuck together if there’ s no load on the joint. Depending on the contact area, there’s a rubber cement trick that involves letting a coating dry on the parts to be joined; they’ll stick when you put them together - unfortunately, rubber cement will also dissolve paint at a touch.

I have not tried this but what about a version of a contact cement? If you’ve made trees for dios you’ve likely used a Senic Cement that attaches the foliage to the trunks and the trunks are a fexible plastic or vinyl … Anyone used that on vinyl?

I would be very careful and heat up a small piece of wire and stab it into the vinyl feed chute, maybe two pieces, to make a “plug” and drill holes in the mini gun to glue the wires in with super glue.

Hmmm… interesting subject!

I’ve always had success using “Shoe Glue” (very strong). It’s ONE magic solution that made the 9 vinyl ammo chutes work when I scratched the Aurora ACH-47 (five .50 cal, two 20mm, two sections of 40mm)… the other trick to making them stay connected, is NOT “handle” them after they’re assembled. Take care,

oldhooker,
I’m going to try the shoe glue trick. Do you have anymore information like, will it take paint? Does it need to have a large contact area?
Thanks everyone for the replies.

adeake…

It doesn’t take much to work, just the contact area’s. Also, what little bit of glue that was exposed, took the paint just fine.

Good luck and remember to post some pictures! [;)]

I once tried vinyl swimming pool repair cement to join the ends of a tank tread. It has not come apart, even after perhaps 25-30 years. I never tried it on styrene, though. It may be worth testing.

Another possibility would be automobile tire patch cement. I have not tried this one personally.

Ever try PVC cement? That stuff will pretty much stick anything together.
