Does photoetch "go bad" if unused?

Just a quick question on something I’ve been curious about.

We all know that bottles of paint and decal sheets can go “bad” (or not) if unused and left in storage, etc. for years or decades.

But what about unused photoetch frets? What happens to them? Do they rust?

It will rust if steel or tarnish if brass but has to be exposed to moisture over time to do so. If it is kept in your modeling workshop and relatively dry, it will be fine. I have PE leftovers that have been hanging around for a couple decades, and they still look the same.

Ahoy Whatif. I had some photoetch “go bad” a while ago. It started smoking cigarettes and hanging around the pool halls.

Haven’t had that happen so far. What Gino mentioned about rust and tarnish is about all I’ve had but the one brass PE fret that did tarnish on me was because I had left it in my toolbox out in the garage.
