Does anyone else?.....

Was just wondering if anyone else pulls the wiring out of old electronics components when they bite the dust. I have been doing this for a few years now. I use them for engine detailing like spark plug wire and heater hoses and such. Plus its cheaper than going out and buying wire from radio shack.

HEY,
I just did that to an old alarm clock the other night. If you take apart a digital watch, you can use the screen for a TV inside a car.

Cool,
I never thought of the digital watch idea before. I’ll have to try that one.

thanks,
ken

Yeah the digital watch Idea does sound good! Never thought of that and I have a few Timex’s lying around here somewhere
Thanks for the tip!

You know you got it bad when you look at something (anything) and think of a use for it in modeling.
I get in trouble when I fill my pockets with stuff and it goes through the washer and dryer, tends to upset the wife. Then I have to dig it out of the wastebasket. . .thank goodness we have sons or she might start to suspect me!!

I’ve used a gear from an old (not really that old) pocket watch to replicate the ring gear on the flywheel on the back of a motor - worked a treat.
Some older printer cartridges (like OKI) used to have a little gear in them to turn the spool for the ribbon - those little gears have found lots of uses in my models in the past.

Yes I agree. I pick up all sorts of odd things and have stacks of wire, bits of exposed film for windows, bits of old clocks, springs from old pens, copper wire in different sizes but somehow I still find I don’t exactly the right thing I need!

yeah, I never throw anything away! Could be useful someday!

We were just discussing a similar topic over in the sci fi section…

The Link is entitled “Cheap LEDs” or some such. Yeah, I canabalize EVERYTHING! But the watch is a cool idea since i am currently working on a model of KARR [modified KITT from Knight Rider] and he has two TV screens in the dash. I plan to trash the included V8 and scratch build a turbine engine which he is said to have on the show. I’m still scrounging for something appropriate.
