I am looking for a good model for the WW2 russian JS-2 tank , is there a good kit out there for this monster ?
DML/Dragon makes one. I haven’t built it, but I think it’s OK.
Shawn, I have the DML JS2 M I think… They have three and I have the late WWII one for Berlin… don’t quote me on the “M”. Anyway it says which one it is and shows it rumbling through a bombed out town on the box art. Its a nice looking kit. I have it about half built but have shelved it for a while. It has nice texture modeled onto it for the heavy castings but I redid them with putty. I would recommend the kit certainly…

It was my first Dragon kit. Not as super detailed as some of the German kits, but that is probably due to lack equipment and so on. I think it is a sweet build and that was my first experience with indy tracks. One of the best fitting models I’ve built. I’ve got kit #6012 JS-2 Stalin II. They also make #6018 JS-2m Chkz Production Type. A third one is #6084 JS-2m UZTM Production Type, Chinese Volunteer.

Dragons IS 2s are good kits, they also make the self propeled guns too like the ISU 122 and 152
Italeri (Zvezda) makes a JS-2 (kit #281) that builds into a wartime JS-2m. It has vinyl tracks, if that matters to you.
Fujimi makes two excellent 1/76 JS-2 kits: a JS-2 and a JS-2M. That’s the M in my signature. These kits are excellent! Amazingly sharp detail, link-n-length trax, and perfect fit.

I second the recommendation for the DML IS-2. I built one of these several years ago and really liked the kit. The only thing that gave me trouble was the indy links, as it was my first experience with them. They needed quite a bit of cleanup also, as I recall there were ejector marks on them in visible spots. Other than that, it was a pretty easy build.

Thanks guys , the JS-2 m was used during the last part of the war ? Or was just the js-2? This will be a far future build , I have a couple I will get to before it , but I want to order the stuff now so I have it when ready .
Shawn, early '44 and on. The JS-1 which was more or less a KV-1 with a 85mm debuted in late 1943.

As Tigerman says, the IS-2 beagan production in early '44. The IS-2m began to be seen later in the year, and had much improved hull armor, and a slightly different mantlet. If you compare pictures of the DML models, you can see the hull differences. Both tanks saw action in the war, there are rumors that some IS-3 saw action in the last days of the wa, but that hasn’t been confirmed. I’m currently building one of their kits, a captured KV-1, and its pretty decent, although the track links are a PITA, and don’t look very accurate. They may get some heavy weathering!

I’ve got the Italeri JS-2. It looks alright in the box. The detail is pretty basic and it has four piece vinyl tracks that are pretty weak, but I don’t see anything that looks like it would be difficult to build.
