Do you guys get that Hobby shop feeling?

Alright what i mean by this “feeling” is when you walk into a hobby shop and just browse everything for hours…even if you only went in to pick up paint

I always somehow go in for Primer or paint or whatever and end up walking out with either alot of paint, putty that i dont need or a brand new model…I just get that feeling of awesomeness when I enter a hobby shop…just love it so much…

Its quite the opposite with the girlfriend…she gets the “get me the hell outa here now!” feeling…to which i reply i still looking for what i need honey…(secretly i know my shop inside and out…i just can’t stop browseing). [8D]

and if anyone thinks im torturing her…you should see her clothes shoping trips with me…its like you have entered a zone where there is no escape…a zone…of utter and complete boring…and it seems everytime i complain to get her moving…all hell breaks loose! as she flips out on me…[banghead]

Anyone else get these lethal and deadly symptoms when you guys walk into a hobby shop?

-Brian

Sure, everytime I enter the LHS I browze everything, even though I know it all by heart. It’s an urge that cannot be resisted.

Regards, Rick

Oh man, do I ever! When I was younger, Phil’s Hobby Shop, in Ft. Wayne, IN, was my Mecca. I rode my BMX bike there one day just to gawk at all the stuff, and I lived ten miles away, outside of the city! I don’t get the urge to go to the LHS as often now (45 miles + gas), but when I do go, I stay for a while.[:D]

You should have been in the vendor rooms and Dragon Expo room at the NATS. It was that feeling times ten!!! Oh yeah!!!

Funnily enough, I’ve only ever been to one LHS, and it wasn’t very local! It was 150 miles from my home!!!

I do get that LHS feeling whenever I visit Hannants though, and usually come out with more than I need. I get that kind of “Ooh, while I’m here, is there anything else that I need?” feeling… you know how it is.

It’s worse than going to a pet store and not walking out with a kitten … when you have the wife and kids along. And I always have a coupe new kits in mind that I just want to “look at” and usually look at in the car on my way home. I got more stuff in the closet than I could build in a year of workdays, but my job keeps getting in the way. Can’t quit because I need the money for paint and glue and airbrush thinner and … and … and … 'scuse me, I gotta go to the LHS for a while …

A useful tip: find a hobby shop next door to a nail salon. This has worked like a charm for me and keeps my wife happy, too. (She has told me she’d rather have her teeth extracted than spend a half hour in the LHS).

Take care,

Mark

Like some of you guys my LHS is 50 mi away so when i get there it has to fit in between other shopping erands and may only occure every 2 months or so. I try to hurry and gawk everything i can before the wife gets back from the fabric store next door . Usually i’ve got 3 to 4 models and variouse other supplies that i cant afford all at once (well i could but i’d feel guilty for blowing that much money - for a few minutes anyway) and i’m trying to make a choice before she gets back. Talk about breaking out into a nervouse sweat ! I also enjoy getting home and opening the kit box , ahh -the smell of fresh styrene ![:D]

Yup-everytime I open my closet doors! [;)]

You bet! MY wife won’t even go into the one LHS I really like, you have to go through a dingy hallway (like something from the twilight zone), not to mention it is in a seedier area of town.

You know though she will come into other hobby shops wth me once in a while and sometimes she’ll suggest I get a kit i want! Talk about support![:O]

Hmm - local hobby shops are fairly rare in the UK - at least those which appeal to the likes of us. However Hannants is about 30mls away from where we have ercently bought a house. Now I do not think you would easily memorise the contents of their “store”. It is a warehouse - containing just about every kit, accessory, decal, modeling tool et all that is produced. There was (last time I was there) a Harrier (1:1 scale) being restored. Nothing much in the vicinity for the ladies save an antique shop that appeals to she who must be obeyed, so the trip can prove expensive!n

I know what you mean I go into the hobby shop to get some paint or glue and end up spending an hour and a half checking out the latest kit offerings. One of my favorite places is the LHS.

I get that feeling.WHen ever I walk into that HS,I ealk into the A/C isle, and A huge grin just get on my face. And then my moms like’'Hurry up I want to go to Mervyns what are you lookin for?" I reply with two words a plane,(but Im thinking of a certain plane.)She says “heres one lets go”

My favourite LHS is on my way home from work. I would have posted this a half hour ago, but I got sidetracked on the way home.

Sometimes I feel like Norm from Cheers when I walk in the door.

That’s bad, isn’t it? [:D]

to see the aisles and aisles of possibility. the immensity of opportunity for reinvention in such small scale. every tool, kit and accessory part of a magic portal that transports you to another time or place or maybe just for a few pleasant hours or minutes shows you things that represent something greater than yourself or at least other than yourself. each item represents so many possible hours of pleasurable work, steady activity, concentration that is like a zen meditation, a steady hum in the brain and body as you work with the kit. you feel the relaxation of the work. and then the satisfaction of a dry paint job that looks well, when the dry fit is good, when the canopy is clean and straight. these things enter my mind in the shop. what will i take home to be my friend as i while away hours just being a man working on a piece of history? though really - i need all of them. all the kits, all the tools. and the time to do them all…if only hobby shops sold extra time…

That goes for both my dad and I. We know our LHS like the backs of our hands…
Even though we have seen everything twice over, it never fails that we still have to look around. I guess its just in our blood…
Come to think of it, Ron will even ask me where certain things are… Go figure, hes the owner of the shop(Well at least in his mind he is[:p][;)]).
Its my home away from home and I would not change it for the world… Maybe for some Cheese Cake though…[:p].

I think rds1 nailed it for all of us here…!!!

There isn’t a LHS here in central BFE per se, but I do miss the mom & pop stores that I frequented in Japan. Well, I also miss the bigger ones, too like Post Hobby![:D]

When ever I go to a hobby shop I have to restrain myself.

But once a year a very big hobby shop in Holland has it’s "yard"sale, and then I go into a shopping frenzy!
