Do you build your planes clean or loaded up?

I generally go clean or put the bare minimum of stores on my planes, like sidewinders on the wingtips of an F/A-18.

Unless the missiles or bombs or whatever are a major part of the plane’s role, like drop tanks on a P-51 or bombs on an A-10, I’d rather just see the plane itself.

Where do you guys stand on the issue?

prefer mine as they would have been flown, but as i do WWII stuff mainly, the most i have to contend with is a couple of rockets on late ground attack planes, or the odd drop tank! phew! all that modern ordnance is a bit beyond me.[:)]

It depends on the subject. I built a F-14A with just a CAP-9 and an ECMI pod loaded on it. Same with a F-5E “Top Gun” aircraft. I have a model of the F-102A that I was crew chief on. It is loaded with a WSEM and ballast. Not all aircraft look good loaded to the teeth.

Depends on the subject but you must admit, an F-4 loaded with MK-82’s on MER’s and TER’s is an impressive looking model.

Six of one half a dozen of the other. I like to do a version of each.

I dont like a lot of clutter under my planes.

The odd set of underwing tanks or sidewinders is usually enough to keep me happy.

I’m currently working on an S.2 Buccaneer right now and the only thing I’m hanging under the wings is the slipper tanks as I feel a Buck looks wrong without them, they were such a typical fixture on the type.

If I were doing an F-4 Phantom, I’d probably stick the sidewinders and sparrows on as they were standard gear on most Phantoms, Beyond that, probably just drop tanks or drop tanks on the outer wing stations and a gun pod on centre line if it was appropriate to that particular F-4 variant.

Loaded is how I like to display modern fighters and bombers is how I show mine. To show off what the plane was usually loaded with. Now for WW II fighters I would have to say clean unless the plane was used in another roll. WW II bombers i would have to say about 50/50 mix.

I kinda like the ready for a dogfight look since my interest is WWII fighters.

personally i prefer as little extra as needed to make the a/c look realistic.

Bombers I will put something under. Fighters I like clean or the bare minimum ----drop tanks etc. One exception is the A-4 Skyhawk they just look to much like a flamingo without something underneath. JOHN

Depends on the profile of the A/C, but I like to see the A-10 loaded to the teeth!!!

As i like building WWII stuff, I like seeing most A/C nice and clean… Even bombers, if they have a bomb bay, i don’t want anything cluttering it up like extra bombs or some such. Of course, this all depends… something like an A-6 Intruder would be better modeled, IMHO, with a few MERs of Mk. 82s, or maybe a couple of shrikes and jamming equipment…

Good question!

Usually i go clean. On WW2 types i normally put on the drop tanks (especially on naval types) and just recently i have been building Korean types and loading them up with weapons, tanks etc.

Depends on the aircraft and mission. Nothing like the clean lines of P-51D uncluttered. The A-1 “Sandy” just wouldn’t look right without a wingload of ordinance. The F-105 could go “both ways” as well as the F-4.

I like my aircraft fully loaded, as if about to take off on a mission. Just my personal preference.

Generally speaking I like my aircraft “clean”, though my Typhoon NF 1b is gonna have to have drop tanks

Of course, if you’re looking for something a little unusual, I’ve seen a photo of a Spit IX with underwing beer barrels!!! [%-)] [:-,]

Depending on the A/C and mission of the group - Fully loaded.

Personaly I prefer to have em loaded up. I am currently lokking for a couple of penguin mk3s for my RNOAF F-5 in 1/72 scale. Any hints???

Loaded for bear, ready 5.
