This is the EJ10? That’s not the best of them, IMO. I take it you’ve had problems with paint not adhering to the plastic? Be patient with it. These kits aren’t like Tamiya’s or even Hasegawa’s F1’s. You need to spend a bit of time on them, & they’ll work out fine. Keep us posted on you go. Since there’s nothing new at the moment from Tamiya, we have to get our kit fix from Revell, so there’s a few of us floating around with some experience with these.
Their quality had improved after that Fw23. The prior ones all had crappy tires. I have the Panasonic toyota tf102, renault r23, and currently working on a ferrari f2003GA. Aside from some sanding on those parts, the kit is simple to build up, with crude details unfortunately. Only plus things I can see on those kits are that Tamiay didn’t make most of them so the subjects are interesting; those Studio27 1/20 ones are way too expensive; pretty good tires; awesome decals; something I can have displayed at my office desk and not overly worried about people breaking it (should have gone with diecast…). Honestly, if you give me another chance to spend that 18 bucks, I would opt for Tamiya kits if I didn’t have most of them already.

150 bucks for a curb side kit is way too rich for my blood and that is what I’d loose if I purchased one and the wife found out!

Well, no - Revell F-1 models don’t suck - but Tamiya F-1 models are about a thousand times easier to build - and better detailed…I’d opt for the Tamiya, every time - unless I HAD to have a model that Tamiya DIDN’T make and Revell did…
Lee, you touched the nerve of the problem there. It being Tamiya not releasing anything nowadays!
As for the Revells, I had a bit of a struggle with the EJ10. In the end it came out better than expected and it was so refreshing that I went out to get the Sauber as well… And that was a huge improvement. Went together much better, was a much nicer build all in all. Super decals! As somebody else said, recent Revells are such an improvement (and from what I hear they improve with every outing) on the early efforts.
I built the jordan 197 and had problems with the front suspension going together properly. The instructions had the mounting bars for the barge boards backwards. I did not catch that until it was too late and I destroyed that part trying to get it to fit.
Thanks all, my problem is the way they make you assemble and paint the kit. I guess I am used to Tamiya also. The Aircraft & Armour guys would eat this model up with all it’s mold release lines and injector pin marks.
No, that is true… esp some of the older Revell kits was really bad in that way. Allready the Sauber was a huge improvement. As said earlier, I’ve heard good reports about the newer kits. Back to the quality of moulding - it is unfortunately something F1 modelers are getting more and more used to, since you have limited choices: old Tamiya models, Revell’s (ever-improving) models, albeit in 1:24 or resin kits - expensive and needs so much more work than a few mould lines and pin marks. Correcting the Revell “errors” feels like negligible effort.
Yes, the assembly process is slightly different. Is different bad? A lot of the time you don’t follow the precise steps in the booklet, anyways… (Or maybe that’s just me.)
But give it a try, I’d build some more of them for sure. One of which being the 1:12th F2002 in the cupboard.

It seems that Tamiya is coming out with a number of things - except new F-1 cars…the cars have gone through huge aerodynamic changes in the past 5 years…little wings, winglets, lumps, bumps and multi-element front and rear wings…the last Tamiya offering looks like an antique when compared to todays cars.
Oh, well…keep your fingers crossed.
yup, i just can’t bear the thoughts that to get F2003 to F2005 in 1/20 i need to shell out THAT much money for S27 kits… let alone those McLarens and Renaults… sheesh.
