just a prototype
they wanted more firepower so they went with the 3.7mm gun
‘By 1943, the Luftwaffe had lost its overall command of the air and
could no longer guarantee the Army protection against hostile aircraft.
As the situation in the air continued to deteriorate, the ground troops
were forced to rely to an ever-increasing extent on their own ressources.
For the Panzer divisions, this meant acquiring a more powerful mobile anti
aircraft equipement than the single 20mm automatic cannon carried by
the Flakpanzer 38T, and the chassis of te PzKpfw IV offered an obvious
alternative for the insallation of heavier weapons.’
'Hitler’s own preferences was for a twin 37mm mounting, but a
quadruple 20mm equipement was immediately available and went into
production on Ausf. H and J chassis, the first examples reaching the
divisions in the autumn of 1943. The mounting was protected by four
hinged rectangular flaps which earned the vehicle the title Mobelwagen
(‘furniture van’), but a major disavantage of this system was that these
had to be lowered when the weapons was in action, reducing the crew’s
protection to a simple gunshield. An alternative type ou mounting
carried a single 37mm cannon. A total of 211 Mobelwagen of both types
was eventually built. ’

"At a meeting of the Panzerkommision on 21 December 1943, a desision was made to continue development of a 3.7cm Flak 43 on the Pz.Kpfw.IV chassis instead of the 2cm Flakvierling. Series production of the 2cm Flakvierling auf Fgst.Pz.Kpfw.IV was canceled. The single experimental chassis was converted to mount the 3.7cm Flack 43

in the Nuts and Bolts book on the Flakpanzer IV it says they made 240 of them by Deutsche Eisenwerke
Captain Caveman is right:
‘In early 1943, it was proposed to utilize PzKpfw IV’s chassisfor anti-aircraft gun carrier urgently needed by the front lines units. Originally, Flakpanzer IV Möbelwagen armed with four 20mm Flak 38 guns was designed by Krupp in early 1943, but it was rejected on May 14th of 1943 and did not enter production, although single prototype (or possibly few pre-production examples) was produced. It was designated as 2cm Flakvierling auf Fahrgestell Panzerkampfwagen IV.Its design utilized well proven chassis of Panzerkampfwagen IV which were provided by Krupp-Gruson. The only prototype was ready in October of 1943 and was presented to Adolf Hitler on December 7th of 1943 but on January 28th of 1944, an “interim solution” armed with 37mm Flak 43 was ordered. Flakpanzer IV Möbelwagen was then modified and rearmed with 37mm Flak gun.’
I found this information at http://www.achtungpanzer.com/panzer.htm. So what I wrote previously was not trully accurate. The Flakpanzer IV 20mm never enter production. Just one experimental model. It was change for the 37mm model.
