Well, what can I say? what a fantastic model. I’ve been building for thirty years and I couldn’t have dreamed of a kit like this in the seventies, the only item I “added” were the fruil tracks and the figures. My research (Tigers in Combat ll) indicates that this tank had the binocular sight, so I modified the kit part to reflect this.
This is one of the three HQ tanks of PzAbtlng. 101 before D-Day.
Zimmerit is by the hot iron method
Decals are from the kit
Figures are DML tank crew modified…
Comments welcome…
awsome work I have that kit to build and how I come out half that nice![:)]
One question tough is the front machine gun missing or the command’s didn’t have one?

looks good Steve! Pics are a little fuzzy, but what can ya do! LOL last I checked this wasn’t a pic forum, but a model forum, and in that case you blew me away! Gonna take your suggestion on chipping up the turret a bit and using some red-oxide… will get some better pics once I get the dry transfers from Jeff!
Steve ,
Excellent job !! Your zimmerit looks great on the finished tank. Sure does make
a strong case for hot iron zimmerit. [:D] Thanks again for the help.

Man it seems as though you just started this kit. You are a machine! Well what more is there to add to what the others have said? I never tire of your masterpieces. Keep them coming.
Very nice work! I am about to get started on my own DML Tiger…I also have the Tigers in Combat II book…what pages did you use for a reference? just curious…

Absolutely fantastic looking Tiger. Man, every time I see you pop out a new kitty, the zimm just looks perfect. No idea how you get such good results with a hot iron.
I matched the camo pattern to the instructions, since I may want to enter this model in a comp.
The bow machine gun was dismounted in my reference photos, so I left it out. Based on the feedback here and on other forums, I wish I had included it, so I wouldn’t have to explain. ha!
The interior photo is from a previous build and is in my sig…not part of this model;
Chad: that would be “Tigers in Combat ll” page 230 specific to call sign 008, and the entire section devoted to the SS PzAbtlng 101. There is also a color plate of “008” in the rear of the book. The reference photo on page 230 clearly shows the “binocular” mantlet.
I have the same soldering iron and tried oot your method on some scap plastic. I need more practice! I did note, however, that Radio Shack has a replacement tip for the iron that looks slightly smaller and sharper- did you use this replacement tip or the one that came with the iron?
Awesome work Steve!! Just awesome. I love the ZIm, the basecoat, the weathering, the figgies. I love everything!!! Really enjoyed seeing these pics. Superb work all around.
Thanks Rob - after being in awe of your work, your comments mean a lot. I know you are superdetailing your cat as we speak. Can’t wait to how yours comes out. Have you thought about which vehicle you are going to depict?
