Hey guys since my last 3 builds were aircraft, I decided it was time for a trip back to the darkside…
So far this kit is very nice. I highly recommend picking one up if you haven’t already. P/E grill covers and 1 piece barrel are just a few of the goodies.
Here is what I have so far. I decided to try painting all the raod wheels on the sprue like some people say they do. I don’t think I like doing it that way. It was a pain having to constantly hit them from all different directions to get even coverage. In the future, I will stick with removing/cleaning and then a toothpick and some modelling clay. Anyway, here she is so far.
I know there isn’t much to see so far but I figured what the heck. Thanks for looking. As always, any comments or suggestions are welcome.
Love, love, love the subject Jeff. I don’t think I’ve seen one of these built up yet, so I’ll be following. I have an older Tamiya kit, but haven’t decided if I’ll replace it, even though I know it’s lacking and inferior.
Looking good Jeff! The Jagdpanther is one of my favorite AFVs! I don’t have this one, but I do have the DML Early JP. I’ve also tried the wheels-on-the-sprue method, worked fine until I tried to use my circle template on them![banghead].
Got more work done but I think I have a problem with the engine deck. The area behind the engine exhausts have a big gap. Everything is lined up correctly as far as I can tell so I don’t understand what happened. I realize I can just fill it in. Still, kinda wierd.
Here is what I’m talking about.
If anyone can shed a little light on this, I would be greatful. Thanks for looking. As always, any comments or suggestions are welcome.
Phew! Thanks for that Bill. Every build I saw on here was a Tamiya kit and that gap wasn’t there. I was afraid I would have to try and pop the rear piece off and re-align it and since that sucker is Tenaxed like crazy, the thought of trying it was making me sick[xx(]
Hey Jeff, Your Jagdpanther is coming along really nicely! I’m doing the Tamiya version right now, and didn’t know about the gap on the engine deck. I guess Tamiya got this wrong? Keep up the good work!
The gap should be there, but the screen is wrong, it is too short, it should cover the gap. It is difficult to find photos of this, but the Jagdpanther at Saumur shows this feature, as does the Littlefield Panther A, as shown in this photo;
Thanks for the pic. I was wondering why the screen overlapped the part a little on each side. I used some debonder just now and slid them over so the gap is covered. Thanks again.
Hey there Kykeon! Been a while since you’ve posted and I was wondering just the other day where’d you had gotten off to! Glad to see you back hanging around this bunch. You’re right of course about the screens, I thought I had typed that in to my response about the gap but it got cut off (I have 2 PCs and 2 keyboards in close proximity so it’s not the first time).
Wbill76; A combination of factors lead to my MIA here. Chronic pain / insomnia issues have driven me into the ground. Hopefully this is on the mend now and I can return to a somewhat more normal life. [:)]
Thanks for noting my absence. I don’t do much modeling in the summer and I sort of lost interest in posting, along with about everything else. Maybe now that I’m feeling better I can get back into the swing of things…
Got the base coat and wheels done today. I had a hell of a time getting that little side fender/step, whatever it is lined up. The one that runs horizontally along the sides. I hate the way Dragon only gives you the slightest, I mean like the size of a human hair, little area to try and line up things like brackets. Trying to make them all the same height and angle pretty much gave me a headache. I think from now on, I will glue the brackets to the piece and then attach it.
Enough p*ssing and moaning. Here is what I have so far.
For the base coat, I used Dark Yellow with a few drops of Flat White mixed in.
Thanks for looking. As always, any comments or suggestions are welcome.
Coming along nicely and the base coat looks good! I’m not sure if you’ve left the barrel loose or not, but the muzzle brake has gotten turned almost 90 degrees out of alignment somewhere along the line. Currently you’ve got them pointing vertical when they should be pointing horizontal. I hope it’s something you’re able to fix without too much trouble!
Bill! I don’t know what I would do without you. The instructions called to remove the locater tab but I left it. I guess now I know why. I fixed it. A little twisting broker her free. I tend to get so ahead of myself and excited about making progress that I miss the little things. That is one I wouldn’t have noticed until it was too late. Thanks once again my friend.
