Finished up the 1:35 FLAK 37 yesterday morning. The project was done for the IPMS/USA website’s review section. The last part of the article should be up in a few days…Enjoy!

great work man,its all around great! i especially like the paint chipping and rust effects. [tup] it really looks like its sitting right there on the battle field. bravo.
Looks great! I love the camo.
Yes I like it as well, very nice weathering. Good job.
Good squiggly pattern, not always easy to do.
Looks great!
Thanks Guys! I appreciate the encouragement! I highly recommend this kit!!
JK
I agree with all the positive comments, this is one great looking 88! I would offer that you might want to include the “stakes” that anchors the crucifix into the ground. They are driven through the brackets at the end of the legs. For dio purposes, I think you cut them down to give the impression that they are driven into the earth. Again, congratulations on one great build.

Looks Good. Alot of people have built that kit lately with nothing bad to say about it… Maybe I should try it!
well I just got a Flak 36 with Flak crew also a dragon kit from Ebay for 28 bucks and can’t wait for it to arrive but one thing I am curious about is those reels are those hose reels or cable reels.
Looks great. Maybe it should be sinking into that ground a little more though. Looks like its floating on the grass.
Thanks again, one andall…Crockett, the kit supplies whole and “half” stakes, although they do not fit well once the PE parts are on the legs. I’ll probably cement the “1/2” ones in place when I get a suitable base.
JK
Mikey,
The reels are cable used to lower the weapon to the ground from the limbered transport position when being put into use. Thanks for the encouragaement!Zokissima, the base is a contest Aircraft base I use…and, it’s the only “free” one with grass have! I figured this was better than a plain backdrop…
JK
ok so then the foot pedals act as a reel brake to control the cable reels to prevent a fast drop right?
and how is the barrel with the interior rifling detail and its too bad the gun doesn’t have a operating breech but at least you get brass ammo and 2 different ammo box designs.
by the way as for the gun travel lock there is a way you can make them operational 1st thing get a small diameter drill bit and drill out the nuts on the travel lock hinge (also the part that fits into the hinge) then find brass rod the same diameter and insert it ino the hole cut the ends flush and glue the ends with super glue and you should be able to open and close the top with no problem.
Hey Mikey, great tip…Thanks! The pedals are there for what you described…I don’t know how heavy these Bad Boys were but…had to be pretty heavy!!The breach actually IS workable, but I cemented it in place. Hi JK:
I need to correct you about the purpose of the reels on the transport bogies. They were communication wire, used to set up with a central battery command when several heavy flak guns were set up for battery fire against air targets. This battery control unit would feed location, distance and airspeed info to the various guns. They were missing in many photos too – I guess in situations where the unit didn’t anticipate much battery fire.
The hoist to raise/lower the flak gun’s carriage was a chain (in the directions for the DML kit) that attached hung down from the winch on the bogie unit to each end of the gun’s platform. It pulled it up and it was locked in place.

actually the DML 88mm Flak 36 and 37 kits do include the anchoring spikes both in full length and half length.
awsome build dude-the camo looks perfect-- i especially like pic #4 showing the gun breach and weathering on the inside of the front shield[:D]-- great build-- you said ‘Enjoy!’-- and i did!–treadwell[8D]- p.s. the trailers look great too!
well finally got my DML 88mm Flak 36 and it is awesome. Metal gun barrels for the Flak 18 and Flak 36, 3 turned brass shells, slide molded gun barrels also for the Flak 18 and Flak 36 with molded in rifling, oodles of photoetch , again the stabilization legs are functional and many many more cool items plus mine comes with a gun crew. By the way JK I found out that the gun travel lock actually is fully operational. and I also got another DML kit in today at the same time the Flak 36 came in it is DML’s brand new 20mm Flak 38 that just got released this year.
well I did think to bring this up you could also think of using the ammo crates that came with the Tamiya ammo loading set to display with the Flak 36/37 and instead of using the plastic shells to put in the crates use Tamiya’s Brass Tiger I 88mm ammo set since that is really realistic and the empty ammo casing lends a well used appearance to a Flak 36/37 diorama as well as a busy appearance. Thats why I purchased 2 sets of the Tiger I 88mm turned brass ammo of course I also purchased a set of King Tiger 88mm brass ammo but thats for my JagdPanther.
