DML 6252/6253 availability?

Seems that I can’t find either the early or late Dragon Tiger 1’s anywhere. Some online hobby stores list them as out of stock, while some don’t even have those item #'s listed. On Dragon’s website they list 6253 (late) as Out Of Production (gasp!), but nothing obvious about 6252. Anyone know what gives?

Thanks in advance, fellas.

They’re supposed to enter second production run sometime this summer, although possibly with less etch included.

I got lucky here lately my self. I found the initial in a Hobby shop in Kansas city. But it was the only one they had so I picked it up. But I found three Dragon late tigers in my home town of Birmingham,Alabama at a place called Homewood toy and hobby you can get there number off the internet just do a search. Well I got one, so I know they have two left. This was just a few days ago also. I would have got all three of them but didnt have the funds…hihi Well good luck. Its a shame Dragon made such a great kit just to stop it and yes I heard also the next production run will not have all the extras either. But AFV club wittmann special is a nice kit and i see alot of them still out there in the hobby shops and online it comes with more extras better then there first late tiger.

Wow, that’s really lame. They produce two great kits (just finished re-reading the FSM review of the Late Tiger) and then cancel them? Any idea what made them decide it wasn’t worth churning out a few million? I would have bought at least one of each…hehe.

That’s a good question. They are fetching ludicrous sums on ebay, because everyone believes they are forever OOP. My guess is the second coming will also include increased prices.

Perhaps the run was limited to keep demand and interest high. Anyones guess why they wouldn’t churn out as many as they can sell.

While purely speculative, my guess would be that they are waiting for the demand surge to reach a certain level and then re-issue…but not at the bargain-basement sell-at-a-loss prices that the original kits came out for. Both of these kits were used to break into the market as a major player and set the pattern ever since for new kit releases, so I expect they will be re-released again in the future but at a different price point based on market demand.

Could be a brilliant bit of marketing genius.

Release a kit at bargain prices. Let the aftermarket monkies get a hold of it and start producing some add ons. Re-release the kit with some changes and at a higher price. Couple it with the AM that will be availiable and badda bing…you gotta nice piece a plastic dere Mikey.

My thought is that it was a means to an end to stay competative with the other company releases of similar vehicle types and keep their feet in the pool. As Bill pretty much said it, they set the benchmark and made everyone else hop to. I have to admit though, after hearing so many jabs of the “oh, no not another tiger” I think its kind of funny to hear a slight melancholy at the unavailability of those tigers…[;)] I think we were kind of fortunate to get the Tigers at the price they were released at. I would have paid more for mine and will proboly pick up another one if its re-released.

Tigerman

thats why i brought 6 tiger 3-1s late & 3 tiger 1 early, it always seems the same with dragon they dangle the fat juicy worm & we bite.

Just look when dragon brought out 251s with all the P/E & tigersthe same, we are still paying the sa,me price for the smart kit`s & are lucky if you get an ally barrel now.

Sorry just hav`in a b***H of a day had P/E flying all over the place.

Many thanks Alan[soapbox]

They periodically pop up on E-bay…here’s a 6252 Initial in fact, just about to end. No connection to the seller.

and an example of a 6253 kit also…although this one is set at a higher “buy it now” price, it gives you an idea of what they are going for if you can’t locate one at an LHS or from a buddy.

Sadly, my LHS doesn’t carry Dragon stuff - not much demand for good kits up here in the Great White North…apparently I’m going to have to find myself some new buddies, too, since they’re all fresh out of hot Tiger kits.

Thanks for the input guys.
