Display cases

There needs to be more discussion on how people display their finished products dust free. I am having a dog of a time affording those plastic cases. What are people doing? I cannot find anything reasonable on line. Looking for an inexpensive glass display case, can’t be found. All are a minimum of 3-6hundred. Doesn’t anyone make something that is not fancy, for the basement, between 1 and 2 hundred? I wish there were more discussion on the board about this as well.

Check out Wal-Mart or flea markets. I have seen several reasonable ones out there. I just bought a really nice lockable display cabinet that is made by a gun cabinet company. It was on clearance at Wal-Mart for $223. I later checked the company’s website and they had them for over $350! It is solid pine with three sides glass and three large glass shelves.

Here is a link to the company, my model is #1053 under unique displays. If you look around, you may find something cheaper or better somewhere else. I just happened to get lucky on the price.

You can buy unfinished book cases at very reasonable prices. Add more shelves if you want & you have a serviceable " Basement " display case.

Indeed, I think going the cheaper route is a good alternative. As mentioned above, get an unfinished display case, and if you wish, buy a piece of plexiglass, some mountings, and you have a fairly nice display case, on the cheap.

If you have an Ikea nearby they have several bookcases that have optional glass doors. The whole thing will still be under $300 for a 6ft high case.

After having bought an expensive (is there any other kind?) display case for my Tamiya USS Missouri battleship (350 scale), I, too, wondered why I had spent four times more than I paid for the model itself which was about $50.
One day I was getting cat food in my local pet store when I spotted fish and reptile aquariums for a fraction of the previously mentioned display case…anywhere from $10 to $40…So for my next battleship, the German Bismarck, also 350 scale and 30 inches long, I picked out an aquarium for about $25 bucks, turned it upside down and used a wood panel floor and viola! Ia nice display case! So check your pet stores, guys…

That sounds like a good idea, did you do anything for the thick black lines that the aquariums have on its edges?
