Display cases

K - it’s gotten to the point where my wife has firmly requested the I get display cases for my completed models. Someone used to make plastic/acrylic display cases that where about 12" square (almost perfect for most 1/48th scale aircraft) and stackable.

Anyone got any ideas about these cases?
typical hobby supply has not turned up anything positive at this point.

I don’t know about the particular cases you mention but check Micro Mark catalog or web site. They have wood base with acrylic cover in some standard sizes and you can also order custom sizes. I have used a couple for ship models and they are very good quality, maybe more expensive then you would like though. Bob

thanks, I’ll check it out.

wibhi2…i know the cases of which you type…
Esci used to distribute them in the U.S…and i’ve stumbled across two of their smaller versions over here…
Imex is now the name on the carrier package…
hope this helps ya…

note:…when forced to come up with an alternative idea…i used 1/2" plywood and made a base and used any kind of wood trim from a local hardware store…fortunately were i used to live was a plastics firm that built to my base ID dimensions a plexiglass top & voila’…custom, inexpensive model case…
works great and last a long time…

I’m unsure of the outfit you are referring to, however, you might check out the below web site for custom made display cases. I’ve acquired several of their cases; the quality is excellent and I found the prices to be comparable with other firms, now out of business, I’ve used in the past.

There are 2 I know of in the UK , try www.amjoboxes.co.uk , or www.theshowcasecompany.co.uk. Failing that you could always do what I did, buy a big glass display case (under £200) and fit a lot more glass shelves.

Thank you all.
Imex only seems to make the smaller box dimensions as I found so far …yes, and ESCI rings a bell.

I could easily go shop on NY’s infamous Canal St. (If you can’t find it on Canal, it ain’t made), but was trying to avoid another building project - My wife already has me doing things for the next 3 years.

Cool stuff…I’ll check out those links.

Thank you very much, again. I really appreciate your help

If you’ve got the room for it, you may want to look into a regular glass display case. You can usually find them pretty cheap from stores that are going out of business. Got mine for under 100 bucks. They are generally lit and are good at keeping dust out. Depending on what scale you build, you can get a pretty good amount of models in them. I build mostly 1/48th and 1/72nd and I probably have 30 kits in mine with plenty of room to go.

Presto,

Here’s the URL to IMEX… they’re who I use now… a very nice selection of display cases that won’t break your pocketbook… check it out!

Also, do a search on EBay for IMEX… I got an odd-size IMEX case, 19" x 4", for containing a 1/570th Titanic from a seller on e-bay for $7!! [;)]

Take care,
Frank

Thanks to all for the links to the display case outfits … it is always hard to find safe dust free display space. Thanks again … [swg]

Oldhooker, Imex has a nice selection and a good 1/48:1/72 aircraft case I’d like, but they seem to be a wholesaler. Do I just apply for wholesale membership with the form they provide?

Cool beans…yep, the Imex cases are the ones I was thinking about. Finally found them at roll models and the right size for $12.00 bucks a pop (So, I ordered a dozen)

The other display boxes are really good, but unfortunately out of my budget for the amount I need.

I would love to have a glass display case. But this is a case where there is no room at the inn for that. My backyard is bigger than my apartment foot print. pretty pathetic, really.

wibhi2, thanks.
