I know there used to be a kit of the Discovery from the film 2001 A Space Odyssey. Are there any out there now being made or old ones to be had?[:D]
I just remember the old kit from Lunar Models.
My LM Discovery was so poorly molded I traded it in at the now defunct JFGreen models. I heard there was another one out there, you might inquire over at Starship Modeler.
Federation Models has on under the Comet models heading. Its by Planet X and is $90(18" long). I don’t know how good the kit is though.
Monster In Motion has them. Here is the big kit, they offer several. http://www.monstersinmotion.com/ships/disc1jumbo.html I hope this is of some help.[;)]
I would love to do a model of this ship. Starship Modeler has an inspiring article on a scratch built one.
I saw an review / build of this model in the ( now long gone ) magazine “Sci-Fi and Fantasy Models”.
It looked very nice - well detaild, the only problem was that it used an alluminium tube in the spine that had a tendancy to bend, they recomented replacing it with brass or steel tubing.
None of the Discovery kits are particularly great.
The Monsters in Motion Jumbo kit is a recast of Red Baron’s, and is presented in a bizarre “forced perspective” (i.e, the engine module is a lot bigger than the command module).
For some reason, all of the available models are based off the 2010 version; wrong airlock, wrong escape rockets on the command module, wrong antenna placement, and so on.

We just need lots of patience - Captain Cardboard promises to do a 44" injection molded plastic Discovery kit after his Mercury Capsule kit and moon Bus kits are out. So far, only the Merc is near ready for sale, and that’s after at least a year of work.
Maybe somtime this year I will have the energy to finnish this and make it available.
