Diorama/Photography Base In-Progress Pic.

Here is an in-progress picture of my photography base I just shot a few minutes ago, I needed to take a break from building the new hanger, factory buiding, and battle damaged Bf 109s so I got out the camera and took a few new pictures to see how these new fuel trucks, building, and Kettenkrad are going to look like on the photo base next to some airplanes.
So far so good.

I hope to post another pic or two on my next break.

very nice job matrixone nice job on the dio and photos

Looks great! [:)]

The background works perfectly with the airfield.

Great Job.

Looks great! I am anxious to see the finished product.Cheers! John.

Looks Great. very good, What scale? Ilike the camo on thef uel trucks .

Absolutely spectacular. THe backdrop really brings the picture to life.
What did you use for grass?

Thanks for the comments guys!

The ‘‘sky’’ is airbrushed poster board set a few inches away from the base when the pictures were taken.
The scale of the aircraft and vehicles is 1/72, but I have photographed larger scale airplanes with much success.
The grass is rail road static grass used for railroad scenery dioramas.

The next big thing I am building for the photobase is a Messerschmitt factory building and a hanger. I will post a pic or two when I get something else built.

Here is another pic I took Sunday…

I sometimes place a photo (the bigger the better) a few inches behind my dioramas before snapping a picture. It can add just enough depth to make the scene look more realistic.

Here’s one I took with a background…

Painted skies are nice too, try different scenes as well [:p]

I’m liking that camo on the kubble wagon and gas tanks! Kettenkrad and 190’s awsome too![8D]

Thanks muzzleflash and ArmorMaster!

I have thought about using larger sized pictures or posters for my backdrops but have not found anything I would want to use yet.
Thats a great photo you have there muzzfleflash, thanks for sharing!

ArmorMaster, thanks for comments about the camo on the ground vehicles, part of the reason I wanted to include fuel trucks and other ground support vehicles is to try and see if I could paint the German late war dark yellow and brown/green camo on such tiny models. I tried to copy the camo of fuel trucks I have pictures of in my books on late war Luftwaffe aircraft. I might try some 1/72 German armor models later this year, I’ve always liked the looks of those Tiger II and Panther tanks!

Great Diorama! If somebody hadn’t mentioned it I would have thought that the sky was part of the diorama and not a poster / photo background.

Great looking Dio!!! Where did you finally get the ground stuff (fuel trucks and so on)? It looks really good!

Thanks Chris B and scubaboy99!

After I get done building things for the photobase I will airbrush a new backdrop to replace the one in my current photos. The one I am using now was damaged by some strong winds and I don’t like the color I chose at the very bottom of it, the color does not match my base very well. Also at the extreme left hand side of my backdrop I will airbrush a much darker tree line to match the trees that are mounted on the base.

The fuel tanker trucks are Airfix RAF tanker trucks in 1/72 scale, not very user friendly is a polite way to describe those two tanker kits! I also put together the Kettenkrad and Kubelwagon from the Academy kit, those were fun to make and recommended. I liked those kits so much I am going to purchase the Tamiya Me 262 A2 kit so I can have a Kettenkrad in 1/48 too.

Last night I finished the main construction on my Messerschmitt factory building, I might have it done on Sunday, I’ll post a picture in this forum when its done.

You may want to look at the 1/72 kits from PST. I have not built them, but I have browsed their catalog and seen all kinds of fire trucks, fuel trucks, and may be just what you are looking for.

Look on eBay or also check alanger’s site for PST models.

Thanks muzzleflash,
I will give your advice a try.

Nice work!

Thanks Jeeves!
I am still working on a few things for my photobase and when they are done my photos should be improved quite a bit over what you have seen so far.
One of the things I am nearly done with is a Messerschmitt factory building, and if the weather is good enough this weekend I might be able to take a few pictures, I will post them if I can. Watch this forum for update pics on this project.
