Ok, I told myself I wasn’t going to reply to MM’s posts anymore, but this title is to close to home for me. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have your builders do even a LITTLE research before you have them build for you. The 101 wasn’t in Fallujah at any time during this war. Units participating the the Fallujah battles were US Marine units (3rd and 5th Marine Regiments), with parts of the Army’s 7th Cav and 2nd Inf. Regiments , In August 2010 parts of the 101st were deployed in Afghanistan, not Iraq. I’m sure you will ignore my posting, but I am posting it anyways.
On top of the always present historical inaccuracies, the bricks in Iraq are not red. They are locally made from sand-colored mud and are pretty much the same color as the rest of the country, a light sandy-brown. He could also stand the second guy from the right up, he is falling backwards onto the wall. The grafiti looks off too. It looks like a Christian sketch of the praying Madonna to me. Lastly, if it is supposed to be 2010, the uniforms are wrong. As of April 30, 2008, the only authorized uniform for wear is the digital pattern ACUs.
The boots are wrong too…
Also, I can’t tell from the pics, but what weapon the the second trooper from the right supposed to be carrying. Looks like a SAW to me and, if it is, it also looks unloaded. I certainly don’t see an ammo drum on it…
Yup, research would have been good here…
Oh, and all that gear they are carrying on their backs - it should all be desert tan, not green…

I agree including the title.
It seemed to be the figures are built OOB. The modeler followed the instruction on the box for colors. Sometimes the only referrence material you have is the box. The rest of the diorama is another matter.

Not true concerning reference. Since he can get on the web to post his collection, he could get on the web to do a little research. Or, better yet, he could participate in the forums more than just posting his latest purchases and ask what would be correct? I know not everything found on the web is true but it would be start for research. [^o)]
But Model Maniac DID NOT built the models and dioramas!! He gave the models to his modeler to build and left him alone until he finished. He maybe new or inexperience in the modeling world. I seriously doubt that MM do any kind of research in war history. He can’t even do a a simple title!
I know he doesn’t build the models. I actually don’t have a problem with him paying for someone to build the models for him. I was saying MM could do a little research before he gives the models to his builders if the builders do not have web access.
MM doesn’t build, research, or really give a $#!& what we say.
You do have to acknowledge the fact this(new?)builder has better figure painting skills than AI or the rest of the bunch .
If he had access to, or was provided with, the correct info he’d turn out a spectacular product.

I guess I don’t understand why this display of four unrelated soldiers is in the diorama category. But that’s just me.
Because this is MM’s idea of a diorama. Just about all of his “diorama’s” are unrelated figures placed on a base.
This is the BEST diorama I have ever seen.
I don’t understand MM, as I’m sure many of us don’t. It seems he is not a modeler himself (odd, considering his screen name), but employs others in his bid to collect a stock pile of rather poorly executed dioramas and other subjects.
The thing is, as a collector, wouldn’t you strive for quality in the items you so treasure? Shouldn’t your collection be something you should be proud of? Why does he go through the trouble if he isn’t being presented with something that isn’t going to be immediately dismissed by other people in the modeling community.
Perhaps he doesn’t care what we think…This may be true although, if that’s the case, why does he insist on posting works by other people especially when, given the history of his posts, they will not be well received. I think at this point he isn’t looking for advice and I would be interested to know whether the advice that is given him is, in turn, passed on to his “workers”. Again, judging by the history of his posts, I would say no.
So, if he is happy collecting models of moderate quality and blatantly overlooking obvious historical deficiencies, so be it. Though I don’t understand his motives, his posts never the less serve as a continued guide for “what not to do”.
That’s another thing. MM’s collection seems to be based entirely on the works of others and we as viewers have no idea what kind of modeling background they have, let alone what kind of resources they have access to. So, really I can’t fault the modelers themselves and to be honest, some of them show a great degree of skill, like this one with figure painting. I just don’t understand MM’s motive or perhaps lack thereof…
