Diorama “Last Consultation” using Dragon’s Kubelwagen type 82 w/ Crew + Tri Star’s Last Consultation - by “Art Instructor”:

Comments and suggestions are welcome!

overall I love the work, the RR track is fantastic and the figure painting is way beyond me.

I would like to say that either there is one not enough vehicles or two to many figures, I think it would be hard to stuff 6 people into on Kubelwagen, maybe drop the Kubelwagen crew and only use the Tri Star figures

Agree with dostacos…the two figs w/ the Kubel just don’t fit IMO…they are also SS where the men on the ground are Army, which is another reason they don’t belong…the Kubel is also marked as a 3rd SS PD vehicle…I think the vignette would have been much more effective if you dropped the two figs w/ the Kubel…nice track and groundwork…

Another name for the dio could be “where are we”?

Well, all particular details aside, I like the dio and layout. The grass looks great and the railroad too.

The models and figures are nicely painted!

i think the dio looks really good , the only thing i saw that popped into my mind right away was the rails. they should be rusted up .

other wise good work

rusted sides only the top is just fine for a railroad in use [;)]

sorry i should have been more specific you are right the sides should be rusted but the top should be shiny if the tracks are in use . if the tracks arent in use you actually could rust up the whole thing

Lovely work. A nice, simple, well planned & executed diorama.

I agree with the other guys though - perhaps an extra Kubelwagen or a BMW outfit to ease the suggestion of congestion!

I’d also dirty up the railway sleepers and ballast also - looks a bit too clean to me. Have a look at a 1:1 railway in your area to get an idea of how grubby they look.

Looks good MM.

Where did you get the railroad track for this dio? I’m designing a dio and considering railroad tracks in it.

Thanks,

MM thats a good dio. The rails suggest a path to another place- these guys are planning their future. “Last”?; maybe before they move forward: seems like an optomistic scene to me. It reminds me of the propo photos from 1941-42 with Rommel or Guderian thinking about where to over run next.

The car needs wheel tracks in the straw.

This old model railroader agrees with the critics about the track, its not European, plus the end rails with the open splice holes won’t do. And those ejector pin marks??? Everything on a rail line, unless the track gang is just up the way, which I assume they’re not here, is pretty much one color.

But there is an easy solution- the Verlinden 1/35 track section (s) if you weather them properly.

In an earlier thread there was a question about building a switch, which prompted the observation by this writer that model railroads in plan are not to scale at all, in fact grossly not, so a piece of straight track is fine but a switch or a curve bought from that hobby will not be something that works in a small diorama.

Cool Diorama!How about a tiny(1/72)Kubelwagon?

Many thanks for your kind comments, compliments and suggestions! I really appreciate them!I’ve told A.I. that railroad modelers suggested the rail tracks and base to be blacker/darker.

Ofcourse, a Kubelwagen is not enough for six people, but it’s not meant for the 4 consutling commanders - they have their own vehicle parked nearby (but out of the dio base). I added the Kubel and two figures to add story to the scene. The Kubel may come to give or receive order. Without it there’ll be nothing much to tell.

The railroad tracks are left-over parts from Dragon’s kit, the gravels are real thing though.

philo426, the Kubel 1/72 is a nice tiny thing, I have a few of that too.

Honestly, I hadn’t really noticed the number of figures in the scene until it was pointed out, it’s no issue for me. I really like the idea and the execution of work- fantastic! For all we know, they’re reliving their days from WWI…

Many thanks for your kind comments and compliments, Dre!
