Ive been thinking of doing a diorama of the battle of the bulge and its based on a bridge that is being set 2 blow by engineers and A sherman comes 2 help stop the attack by the panther and a German Hanomag halftrack. The kits i would use is Tamiya’s M3A2, a sherman and my converted M-21 halftrack that is now carrying an anti tank gun.
Tell Me what u think and if i should add anything.
As mortar said, it seems quite ambitous. What do you feel about the advice given to you earlier about “less is more”, “keep focused”, “stay to one story”? I know you talked about a large BoTB diorama and you were given lots of good advice. What’s your thoughts about that?
Should you add anything? I’d cut out 80% and do 1-2 vehicles with a compelling focal point.
I’ve seen the large expansive dioramas and they’re just boring unless a real artisan is at work. Give me a well thought out story and I can’t take my eyes off of it. Know that going that route, takes a lot of patience and skill and perseverance to really pull off. However, given your 13 year old energies, maybe you can pull it off. My best of luck to you!
Alternatively, planning out future projects is lots of fun but growing in your basic model building is essential. Maybe post a photo or two of just a model, ask for some guidance, and proceed from there?
The story would be of a German column that came 2 take the bridge before the Americans destroy it but the Panther is disabled by either a M-21 with a anti tank gun on it or a sherman I think i might add an M3A2 of reinforcments. Its based on a real bridge that i saw on the history channel about the battle of the bulge.
As Dwight said, just try it out. Why do you post a thread asking what we think of your dio idea? Make a sketch, and post that, and we’ll discuss pros and cons. Ambitious or not, try it.
Also, what I REALLY think…I think you should learn to punctuate. Oh, oh, and periods, exclamation marks, and other sentence structure characters are good too [:p]
So, your making a bridge? with like 6 armored vehicles (a whole frickin armored column), with lots of troops, snow, in 1/35?
See you in 2021…
Also, nobody will really undertand what it’s about unless you write that paragraph, which is confusing to say the least. A paragraph describing the situation is a major nono, better to let the viewer know what’s happening.
I suggest a much smaller 1 square foot dio that is more uderstandable, like a Panzer driving by a knocked out Sherman in a ditch. One that someone can “know” what is happening, as opposed to 15 things happening at once, as you propose. I’m not discouraging you, just opening your eyes a bit.
