Diorama Idea…Possible GB

Here is an idea for a diorama or even a diorama group build. It would actually require building two, a before and after diorama. Build a diorama and then another one using the same subject in the same setting with a passage of time between the two. The amount of time could vary, from a few minutes to many years. Lots of possibilities here and it would work for almost any modeling subject.

So what do you think of the idea?

Sounds really interesting. I’m in if it happens!

Dan,

I have no idea what I would do but if it is a go I am in.

Richard

Sounds cool. I saw a dio a while back that was split in time down the middle. It was an M4 Sherman in action in the snow (I think it was Ardeennes scene) on the left half with figures and crewmen in battle. The right side was cleanly painted and on display in a park with an old man and his grandson looking at the vehicle. The center split was only done with painting and groundwork change. It looked like someone took two photos and cut them in half and joined the two different halves. Can’t remember where I saw it, but it looked really cool. Anyone else seen it.

Sounds like a good idea, I might do it if it becomes a GB. (Im not very experienced with dioramas and want to practice first)

If it’s far enough in the future, I might join. But not before March though. Got an idea already.

Hey Gino, I saw that one too. I think it was in Great scale 2004.

As for this Idea…YEA!!! I would love to see this, and be in it. I already have an Idea!!!
C’mon guys lets set a date!

I remember that diorama. It was called “What did you do in the War daddy?” and on one side two crewmaqn were removing a crewmate who’d lost and arm from the turret. The other side was the grandpa with one arm looking at the tank with his grandaughter. It was a really moving dio that brought tears to my eyes.

Anyone have alink to it? it sounds really good.
For the Possible GB, could you split them down the middle?

I am working on a diorama right now that depicts a missile launch site that I can convert to a future time in the same area with out much of a problem. If this group build is a go that is what I will do.

Richard

Let wait and see if there’s any more interest in this diorama idea. If we started any time soon it looks like we would only have about 4 or 5 participants. I hope more will jump into this but I also know there is a lot of other GB’s going right now and in the future. Maybe a half dozen or so is all that is realistic. It will probably be a GB at some point as I plan to build a before/after diorama anyway.

I think that a diorama should tell a story. I lean towards two separate dioramas, each telling one part of the story. Ideally each diorama would be interesting enough to stand on it own, but together would give a bigger, more complete picture.

I do have an idea for my diorama, but I’m going to keep it a secret for now. I am undecided about one of the vehicle in it, but will be at a model show this weekend and will be looking for just the right kit. So stay tuned in.

Come on everyone, jump on in, show enough interest and I’ll get the Before/After GB ball rolling.

Dan, you should post similar posts in the main other forums. Your ideas are spot on, I think.

I have had an idea for a while regarding an Atlantic Wall Bunker. The area before the war, as the Germans start building, June 5th, June 6th and another 50-60 years later. Then I could enter it in Collections [;)]
With my modeling speed (or lack thereof) this will probably take me another 5-10 years to get done. Want to run the GB that long.
Like the idea though.

How big a dio were you thinking of? A pacific ampib assult then and now might be cool. Tanks and figures storming the beaches then, and just a few rusting tanks sitting in the water now. Just a thought.

djmodels1999, is it Ok to post this in several of the forums? I wouldn’t what to be accused of spamming the forums.[:D]

Armydogdoc, that’s the right idea. The diorama I’m thinking of building would be in 1/72 scale and would included aircraft, vehicles and figures.

I think this build will be a reality. I am still working thru some of the details and the timing.

It’s not like we’re trying to sell washing-up powder is it…?! Just a couple of ‘ads’ in the Armor and Aircraft forum would do the trick. Not everyone check this diorama forum.

Interesting idea. I’d be very curious to see what people would model. I"m comitted to far too many things right now, so this is one I probably wouldn’t be able to participate in. Still, a very interesting idea.

hi mates [;)] you have to remember just one thing making sutch dio : what survived from ww2 until now? - armour in musea

  • bunkers and some coastal defences
  • bridges

i think making a full beach assault with rusty armour (now) still in the water would rise some eyebrows [:D] ;armour in musea has already been done ; was thinking of a bridge at arnhem (half then ,half now) just not that simple to get cars in 1/35 scale to reprecent now [:(] or just bikes and people crossing it.

Timeline doesn’t have to be many years, could be a few hours or even minutes between the two. I just think I have an idea that would work with a period of years between the two. When I finally get around to posting the build I’ll let you all in on my plan, I need to find one more OOP kit to match one I already have. [;)]

My Idea would be dealing with a couple of mothes. Although I have more than one idea… Do We have a starting time?
