Hi all,
I was hanging around on a sunday morning, playing battlefield vietnam when I got an idea for a diorama. Called “Air Cav!” It would be based around a panda UH-I Huey, mounted on a clear acrylic rod an inch above the base. I would use broom straws to simulate the tall grass of the lz, angled out around the hovering heli to simulate rotor wash. The only thing remaining is figures. The only vietnam era set i could find was a dragon lurp team. does anyone know where I could find a reasonablypriced set of vietnam soldiers, prefferably airmoble? thanks a lot.
DML has many Vietnam figure kits. They have a 1ST Cavalry set that would work well. They also have other sets that could be modified to be AirCav. They also have the Vietnam helicopter crew set.
Here are a few:
Heli Crew
1ST Cav Troopers
If you want to go the resin way, Hobby Fan has a whole line of Vietnam era soldiers with some being AirCav and one even jumping off the skids of a Huey.
Have you thought about paint brush brissles instaed of broom ones there finer and you get them long enough (I assume this is a 1/35 project), here’s a pic of something I just finished using them sorry about the photo quality I got to fix that http://img1.photobucket.com/albums/1003/cplchilly/
First, [#welcome]
Second, I can’t really help you with 1/35, but for 1/72 go herehttp://www.tracks-n-troops.com/shq_figures.htm
At the bottom of the page are the Vietnam figures.
Third, if you have battlefield 1942, there is a FSM “clan”. Basically what we do is get together and play. Send me an email and maybe we could play Bf Vietnam also.
See ya around
The last four links above are the ones I was talking about. I thought they were by Hobby Fan, guess it is Legends. They do look awesome. A bit pricy though.
I know dragon used to make some vietnam kits. i believe i built 2, and they were excellent kits… tobad i was only 7 and ruined them… id show u the pics.
I´m working in something like your idea of diorama , using Dragon DML figures (cheap and good kits). You can mix figures, bodies, arms and legs from “Marine Recon” kit, “1st cav division”, “Marines Khe Sahn” (from this one don´t used the bodies, the vests aren´t like the army ones). And of course for crew the “Vietnam helicopter crew”.
I f you want something “ready to eat” you can go for a kit from Legend with 3 army grounts jumping from an helo (one with a M-60 running, one just jumping from the skid, and other ready to jump from the seat, you can buy them together or one by one). Of course, this kit isn´t cheap (one figure cost is like a box of four from DML Dragon).
I have seen some us helibourn figures from Legends Productions the figures are LE0039, LE0037 single figures and a set of three helibourn cav. LE0038 sorry cant tell you the web site but I did take not of them they are relativly new kits in 1/35[:D]If I find the site I will edit this so you can have a look it was in Aus. site good honting
