Dio #3 ( hold your breath) pics

Hi guys, this is My 3rd dio and second in 1/72. the base is celluclay and woodland scenics: 2 different colors of static grass, railroad ballast, and bushes stuff, and flowers. The Tiger is the same one I built for Mad Tiger Day- Dragons new kit. The jeep is from academy’s WWII ground vehicle set. The windows on the jeep were made from testors window glue and the holes were made with a knife. the figs, German and and US, are both italeri.

The them is to potray a jeep on a scouting mission that ran into some trouble when the driver who was going to fast lost control and slid down the embankment and lost one of the soldiers in the crash. A colum of SS troops discovered the crash site and quckily moved in to investigate the jeep before the surviving Americans (because they were knocked out) could escape. There only chance wash to hide behind some hedges.
Sorry, its kinda tricky. The one thing thatis bothering me with this dio is the position of the Jeep. I wish I would have made it on its side or something.[:(][:(!]

Nice work, braille scale too! How do you paint those figures? I had a pz IV in 1/72 and it wasn’t even up to the boots of one of my panzer crew in 1/35th. Is your dio in your sig a 1/35th?

Thank guys. The dio in my sig is also in 1/72. theres a post in this forum (dio) with it somewhere… Takes alot of patience with the figs alot!

Especially in braille scale. I have enough trouble painting 1/35 figures, so kudos on a job well done.

My only advice…take it for what it’s worth from someone who hasn’t even finished a dio yet…

I think you should try to avoid using straight lines as much as possible. What do I mean? I think the visual appeal of this subject would be enhanced if you were to have the mound oriented on an angle. Maybe 30 degrees or so across the back of the base. It would be further enhanced by having the mound be a bit less flat and straight. An inclined shape or slightly ramped effect would appear more “natural”. If it were a railroad bed, with ties and rails, that would be different, but nature abhors straight lines.

Keep up the good work and in no time we’ll all be asking you for tips.

Nicely done.

I agree with all the other comments that this is pretty impresive, especially since it is 1/72. I also tend to agree with Foster7155’s observation about the linear arrangement of your layout. The thing that jumped out at me was the orientation of the tank’s turret. All the action is to the tanks left, but it has its gun pointed straight up the road. Just seems a little unnatural to me.

Guys, Thanks for the comments. I got some good stuff here. I read about making things not as parallel, but for some reason didnt liston. I have planed and started a nother dio in 1/35 that will be at a bigger angle.
BTW, that tiger is supposed to be rolling by. The SS soldiers were marching on the sides of the tiger when one of them spotted the jeep and ran to investigate it.

Vrey nice build John. I think you did a great job on the TIger.
As per the suggestions above, one key item to keep in mind with dioramas, elements, especially dominant ones like the Tiger, should never be aligned parallel to edges. I’ll use the top photo (as it’s top down) to suggest that you take the tiger and tilt it to actually face slightly towards the jeep, and turn the turret to face directly at the jeep. This will help immensly in guiding the viewer, and helping your retell your story. Also, if the jeep slid off the road, I suggest actually making some marks in the ground indicative of this, and tilt the jeep into the bushes and trees to show it running into it and slowing down. If you do not wish to turn the vehicle on it’s side, how about a rock or fallen log that was in the path of the renegade vehicle. You can portray the jeep on top of said item, again indicating that it was forcibly stopped.
Just my 2 cents.
