Dimming Decals.

I have just applied the decals to my finally almost complete dragon 1/35 stug III, however, they appear to bright for the rest of the vehicle. I am wondering if anyone has an idea as to how to go about taking some of their brightness away (not gloss, the overall brightness of the color) as they appear to stark and new. I am thinking of applying a brown oil filter over top, but have never tried that before and am not sure if that is the best way to go about it. Any sugestions would be greatly appreciated.

I always thin down some of my base color really really thin and then lightly mist it with my AB. Thats what I did on this 251

A fine mist of Tamiya “buff” or a similiar enamel equivelant usually does the trick. Really any thinned earth tone will work. I faded this decal with Lifecolour “sand”, and then sealed with Polyscale flat:

Next time around, apply the decals right after painting and gloss coating and before any weathering. Remember, the decals represent markings on a clean vehicle, before it has been put in use. Any weathering to the paint will also affect the markings.

That is the problem with this. I realize after the fact that i should have done my decals before my washes, as now my decals stand out too much. Thanks all for the input. I’m not too worried about this one, as i have mucked it up pretty good (installed the tracks reversed) so im mainly just completing painting it for practice. I appreciate the input.

Another thing you can do to tone down the markings is rub some ground-up pastel chalks of a suitable earth tone over them, and seal with clear flat. I used afour or five different pastel colors on this Sherman.
