Yet, here I am, handing out advice and talking about this or that build I did, and I have not sent one iota of proof that I even build models, because I have no camera. So, Lord, if you can find it in your heart, please send this dirt poor writer a digital camera. A cheap one will be fine. Thank you, and bless Ma, and my sibs, and all the guys and women at the FSM site. Amen.”

Aw, because I still get misty-eyed when I remember losing Janice who, like me, grew up a misfit in a little jerkwater town in east Texas. Who, unlike me, had too much talent for one person.
Now, how many model sites get around to mentioning Janice Jopllin? Now, I ask you? She was my queen at 15, and when she died I learned about it reading the Dallas Morning News in study hall. I lay my head on my desk and cried. If you aren’t from that generation, you can’t understand, though every generation has their equivalent heroes. No, she wasn’t a great role model, but that’s not what she’s remembered for.
Now, to make this relevent, lets list all the different planes that killed all the rock n roll stars. Who can remember the most?
Buddy Holly et al died in a Beech Bonanza, the fabled" fork-tailed doctor killer." Rick Nelson and Lynyrd Skynyrd, C-47s. How about Otis Redding? Does anyone know what he was in when it crashed into the lake?
John Denver was in a Rutan something or other. A Long Eze? He ran out of gas. No excuses. Sorry the man died, but running out of fuel on a local flight is unforgivable because of the example it sets for young pilots.
Now, if I were really a sicko, I’d do a group biuld of planes that killed the rich and famous. But I’m not a sicko, so I won’t suggest it.
Shark, I’ve seen disposable digitals on sale in this area. You get the toss away camera & a photo CD with 24 shots for around $20. The pic quality probably isn’t great, but might be good enough to post some pics of your builds. I have no hands on experience with them so can’t say for sure. There are several free web host sites available for uploading so they could be shown on the Forum.

Then you will be praying that the battery doesn’t go dead, and that the only place that carries batteries for 100 miles is Walmart, and they dont’ carry the battery. They have rows and rows of 9Tv8608s, but not a single 9Lv22501N. So you have to order it, and its put on back order. In order to overcome the need to post your work on FSM, you take the old 35mm and shoot some pics, and take the film to the same Walmart, who ships the film off to India, or Indiana, or Fargo ND to be processed and they lose it. So, for my ode to the digital picture, I pray, that someday I may be able to post pics on FSM.

All the shots I have posted are 35 mm. When I get them printed, I have them also put on a disk. I don’t do that for everything, because it gets expensive, just the things I want to share here.
Good posts sharkskin! Getting the digital camera would solve only half my problem. The other half is getting the pics from the camera to yours and everbody elses screens. I’m not a computer genius by ant stretch of the imagination so for now everyone will just have to accept my word that I actually do indeed build models.[:)]
Thanks guys. First, I had no idea they have disposable ones, and for something I’m especially proud of – that may be coming up – it would be worth it. And I, too, would take about six months to learn the art of uploading the darned pictures and there would be a sea of red X’s in the meantime on this site. I hadn’t thought of second hand. And, as for the batteries, it sounds like that problem we have with printer ink/toner. I just spent $38 on a bottle of ink for my printer – black, because the black ink was missing when I bought the thing new, not knowing the company stopped makes this model Lexmark. And I had to look all over creation for the $38 bottle (who knows what the color one’s gonna cost me, but the black is about half what the printer’s worth new.) To add insult to injury, I probably spent another $20 in subway fare (in Houston, it would have been in gas money) looking for the proper ink cartridge. Oh well, I could not have a hobby.
Wait…no airplanes? It’s too horrible to contemplate – the mind recoils.

Take the photos with a film camera and have Kodak put them on a CD for you at the developers. Voila! [;)]
I did see a 3.2 megapixel HP digital camera today in the Fry’s Electronics sale paper for $99. I don’t know what you have in your part of the world, but there are several good ones for pretty cheap.
See, I learned something. Computer dumb as I am, I did not know that a regular roll of 35 mm could go on a CD. I’m a reporter, I never claimed to be a photog. In fact, they really resent it when reporters take pictures.

Yup, puts us out of a job[:(!][;)]. As an on-the-side freelance photographer (but not journalist), imagine the shame I feel for not sharing my builds in a pictorial fashion [:I]. The trouble is I use ‘old economy’ equipment for the money-making shoots, so a digital camera would be a frivolous expense in my case. Now, I do intend to get frivolous as soon as the bank permits, but for the time being…[:(].[sigh]

I got a decent 2 megapixel digital camera I could probally let go with no cost at all to you sharkskin. I just bought a 5 megapixel camera a couple of months ago and have no use for the 2 megapixel one now. Just email me and I will send it to you.
I mentioned Ritchie Valens when I said “Buddy Holly et al”. As for Glenn Miller, that was a Norseman, I believe, and many theorize it was hit by a bomb dropped by Lancs dumping their loads on the way back from a socked in target. And then there are lots of cockamamie conspiracy theories about it, too. Stevie Ray, I actually knew, before he got famous outside Texas. I was editor in chief of a small alternative weekly, Village Voice type thing in Houston, and Stevie would come in a check on his ad copy for his appearances, to make sure there were no errors in it. What a nice guy, and what a terrible, terrible loss to music. He was just beginning to enjoy life clean and sober and was happier than he had ever been when he was taken from us in that chopper crash, along with Eric Clapton’s manager, the pilot and one other person I don’t know.
I think Otis Redding went down in something similar to a Twin Beech in 1967. If anyone knows for sure, correct me, pls.
