Hello all. On my build I’m using all Tamiya acrylics. Tamiya doesn’t offer zinc chromate. I know I can mix a few colors to come up with it but rather have a bottle on hand. Can I safely use a “non” acrylic with my acrylics and get away with my normal gloss coat pre/post decal and weathering without screwing up? Or should I just buy a different brand of acrylic? There are so many brands now and types I’m not sure which avenue to go down. In the end, I want something safe, simple with the least amount of prep/steps, and of course the correct match in the color. Thank you, Ted.
I use acrylics, enamel and even lacquers by three or four different manufacturers on the same model on a regular basis. I have never ever had any form of issue. Just make sure each is well dry before adding the others.
Ok cool. But I use the Tamiya Panel wash which I believe is a lacquer. It says not to use over lacquers. So if I use a lacquer paint and want to use Tamiya Panel line, I guess I would make sure my gloss coat,(pre decal/weatherimg), is acrylic? Does that sound right? Is the acrylic clear coat ok to use over other types of paints?
I don’t use that wash but it would indeed be fine if you sealed between them. The acrylic clear is good over anything. Again make sure the undercoat is well dry though.
Very good, THANK YOU.
Just looked it up and the Tamiya panel wash is an enamel so “Should” be fine over anything. I would listen to the instruction though if it says not to use over lacquer.
The best way to find out is to try it out on something you don’t care about, old parts from built models, plastic spoon, etc. That way you can see how the paints you have interact.
