Differences between Chinese FT-5 and MiG-15UTI? (Trumpeter kit)

I’ve just acquired (bought on Ebay for around £6 inc P&P!) the Trumpeter 1/32 kit for the Shenyang FT-5 (basically the Chinese-built version of the MiG-15UTI two-seat trainer).

It seems to be a very impressive kit detail-wise, but I was wondering if it’s possible to build it as a standard MiG-15UTI?
The kit seems to contain a number of alternative parts for the nose intake, armament, etc. which aren’t mentioned in the instructions, some of these appear to be for the MiG-15. Unfortunately, I don’t have very much reference material on the MiG-15, and none at all on the two-seater variant!

Anyone else built this kit, or one in the series? (presumably Trumpeter make other kits based on these mouldings, judging by the number of unused alternative parts) - if it’s possible to build a standard MiG from the kit, what are the parts I’d need to use?

I’d work this out myself if I could, but as I said, I have very little reference material on the MiG-15, and what I do have is for the single-seater variant!

Hi Drawde,

Here’s a good shot of the FT-5 nose…

Here’s a “profile” of the nose…

Here’s a couple good reference “walk-around” type sites on the Mig-15 and UTI version…
