details sets for 1/72 scales

I want to ask a begginer question…Do we have to detail a lot for 1/72’s canopy. If it’s better to do it , where do I get the details sets? Do I make it on my own with some everyday products? Or I can buy in online? thank you …plz answer

You do not have to “do” anything, just build models the way you like to.

Detailing and using aftermarket (=AM) parts is a matter of personal preference. If you want to buy AM, visit you local hobby store, they might have it. Also, try online shops like hobby link ojapan, great models, squadron etc etc.

Detailing can also be done with everyday things like scrap plastic, copper wire, streched sprue etc. Just about anything. According to most modellers, the world is divided is 3 sort of things:

1 things that are meant to be used for modelling

2 things that are not meant to be used for modelling but can be used for modelling

3 things which use for modelling has not yet been discoverd

Gotta agree with Remco, all you got to do is build the model. I build 1/72 pretty much out of the box except for decals. Why? One reason is I don’t see the point of buying several times the cost of the kit in stuff I or other’s won’t be able to see once I’m done. The second reason is I’m kind of lazy. Unless you build an open cockpit or one with a large greenhouse, you ain’t gonna see much in a 1/72 cockpit.

With regards to your first question it’s up to you. Modern jets have multiple mirrors, canopy rails etc that can be added; WWII and early jets not so much. If you’re building an open canopy it can enhance it, but it’s not absolutely necessary. Whether it’s better or not is up to you. Now for the sermon you’ve probably heard a thousand times, if you’re a beginner leave the stuff alone for now. Focus on putting together a good model. Focus on the basics; getting a good fit, filling seams, rescribing filled panel lines, laying down a smooth paint job, putting on decals correctly. This will get you further along than building a crappy model with all the latest bells and whistles on it. Should you decide to go to a contest (not everyone’s cup of tea, but most of us end doing at least one), this will get you closer to a trophy than anything else (if you enter out of the box, it might even get you a trophy). The above few sentences are important, take them to heart as you will see this material again.

Now if you’ve decided to go the aftermarket route, your local hobby shop should be able to order them for you. If not any of the online mail order houses should carry them. If not see if you can order direct from the manufacturer itself.

Can you make them yourself? Absolutely. In fact, if you roll your own detail parts, you won’t have to buy another set when a part goes pinging off the table into the waiting jaws of the carpet monster that resides under your table.

Hope this helps.
