i do a lot of warwheels. while the wheeled AFVs usually fon’t have interiors, the trucks have complete frames and, in many cases, complete engines. some of them have hoods that can be opened or the cab can be tilted forward (PLA DF-21 ICBM and tank transporter have this) i want to detail the diesels but haven’t found much. a lot on gas engines. any links that may help?

also where is the auto vs armor line on this? my fire trucks can go here and i suspect my WW2 german staff car and german fire truck would fit. how about modern military trucks of which i have a few (20+)

Michaels craft stores sell some fine wire in several colors, including silver/chrome, that make good wire for injector lines.

If you can find some past issues of Scale Auto from the last few years, Evan Hermel (I think that’s his name) has a regular column where he shows how to detail diesels.

Oh, you don’t have to worry about the classification - all modellers should learn from each other. Aircraft modellers detail their engines too!

Mr. Hermel is really good source of ideas, definitely worth checking out. I used his articles as help with detiling my diesel. You can see it here:

I also agree, that it’s crucial to get some good reference - without it it’s hard to put all those wires and pipes on the machine to look right. Also, please pay atention to the finish - while in the USA most engines are painted, the Russians and the Germans like to leave them in the colour of the material they were made - so usually cast iron or aluminium. Stamped parts get painted (like the oil pan), cast ones ususally don’t.

the one engine is a trumpeter PLA semi which they say to paint orange which will be a nice color addition. i think our M60 power packs were white. also have an IDF D9R armored bulldozer in the stash.as well as german staff car and some WW2 german and US halftracks and german and british trucks. so lots to play with
