Desert Yellow?

Hi guys,

Working on my first tank model after many years of aircraft building. I’ve got the Tamiya M1A2 ready to start.

What I’m wondering about is what would be the correct color to use for the desert yellow scheme currently used for Operation Iraqi Freedom? I’d like to stay away from the Tamiya spray cans so I can do a better job of weathering and shading with my airbrush.

I mainly prefer to use MM colors, but any other brand would be find if y’all could just help me find the right color.

Thanks.

Testors Model Master makes a modern armor sand that is a reall good match. It is available in spray can or bottle. I even have it in MM acryl bottle.

thet also have a color called marine/us army gulf sand which I think is right on the money. It is a MM color.

WOW!!I went to the LHS yesterday to pick out a good color for my M1 and I took MM sand. I didn’t know it was that close!!!

Thanks for the hlep guys. Making my monthly trip out of town to the closest hobby store tomorrow. So, now I know what to look for.

Jason

i picked up Polly Scale’s Desert Storm Sand.

Hey jason,
MMs “Marine/Army Sand” is great but also Floquil(sp) makes a great Desert Storm Sand as well(I think thats what it is called).
Anywho I used it on my Humvee that I just completed. Believe me it looks great. Just a lil shading, weathering and the colour fits.
To me MMs sand is a lil darker than the Floquils sand. Heck you can even use both one for the base colour and the other for the weathering.
Flaps up, Mike

Thanks Mike, that’s a good idea. I like Floquil paints as well.

Now, I’ve got a question about the weathering. What color of was and chalks would be best? Black, brown, gray? Something else I’m forgetting, maybe?

Jason

I would stick with the earth tones, tans and light browns etc.
