This August will mark the 25th anniversary of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and the subsequent Desert Shield build up and Desert Storm campaign of January thru March 1991. Would anybody be interested in a Group Build to commemorate this event?

I’d be game. Been wanting incentive to try a fighter jet of some sort. Something US, launched from a carrier probably. Being my first jet in xx yrs, will probably have a ton of questions along the way.
Regarding DD’s comment, sitting her thinking I was 33 when the operation started? No way. This is really quite shocking.

We had access to airbases in Saudi. Prior to Desert Shield there was no US presence in Saudi.

Pity I don’t have anything in the stash for this. I handed my papers into the careers office the day Saddam went into Kuwait. I was then in training when it kicked off. We were on exercises and the instructors brought out a radio so we could hear the BBC news reports of the first air strikes. It was a bit tense as a few of the guys in the platoon thought they would be going straight out there and a couple of guys who had been back squadded through injury had a couple of mates they had been in training with killed out there.
I might have to see what I can come up with. I am cutting down on GB’s, but I would certainly like to mark this event.
Greg, supposedly Desert Shield was the basis for the beginnings of Al Qaeda. Bin Laden wanted to lead forces in guerrilla warfare against the Iraqis to toss them out of Kuwait as he had done in Afghanistan against the Soviets. He was offended that US forces were allowed entry into Saudi and had a falling out with the monarchy at that time.

Bish, I was off active duty by then, and in the Guard here. I got called up and demobilized due to paperwork screw ups due to my transfer from one unit to another, but never deployed for that one.
For those interested and thinking of building an aircraft, this site is pretty comprehensive on aircraft used.

I was kinda thinking of an F-4 Phantom Wild Weasel I acquired a month or so ago, but it has a special reserve unit retirement scheme that I like, and don’t reckon that would be appropriate for this. No worries, I will find something.
I take it you have the new Revell 1/32 Weasel kit? That kit would work, but would need different markings. Either the 35th FW out of George AFB, or the 52nd FW from Spangdahlem. And learning is usually a good thing
Stik, I was having a look around to see what’s kits catch my eye. At first I thought an armour build. I don’t want to do a warrior as I would like to do one of those in Telic rather than Granby, so I figured a Chally would be nice. I found a review of the 1992 Tamiya kit with Gulf markings. The guy was trying to work out where the stowage was so he checked on here and posted a couple of comments from a couple of shady characters.

After that, I decided to find a list of what the Brits used out there and spotted the Buccaneer. Theres an Airfix that would work for that, so currently I am torn between the two but leaning towards the aircraft.
One of the bases for our Harriers was actually a soccer field. Harries don’t need no stinkin’ runway!! Ooh Rah!!
