What does everyone think of my take on this color?

Sir !
From an amature who’s never seen the color in person - I’d have to say it’s as close as I’ve ever seen to how I imagine it may have been. (Wow - what a mouthful) I did a little research into this a while back when I was thinking of doing my Monogram 1/48 kit in a Ploesti Raider scheme. (I’m thinking that yours must be the same kit) I was never able to come up with a well defined answer to the question of what the color was, but I saw a few artists renderings of planes from “The Pyramiders” that were very close to what you have done. I finally decided to go with the “straight outta the box - Moby Dick” scheme.
One thing I read was that the desert pink color became increasingly pink over time. there must’ve been an iron component in the paint pigment. A friend of mine saw the B-24 “Strawberry Bitch” at Wright Patterson - He said it was VERY pink. But it’s had a very long time to oxidize.
You’ve done a great job on the build. I had problems with a few of the seam areas. Looks like you’ve taken care of all those areas beautifully. She looks gorgeous even without decals. Very nice job. Make sure you show us the finish shots !
Chris
Thanks for all the kind words.
I haven’t decaled it yet, as I am trying to find enough info on “The Lady Be Good”,
to finish it in those markings.
Yes, this is the Moby Dick kit.
The color was just an attempt at mixing until I came up with what I saw, and looked like would match what I’ve seen in pictures and in person.
I have been aware of the Strawberry Bitch for over 30 years, and have some pics. of her, from my trip to Ohio, last summer.

Staff Sargent;
I have the Lady Be Good stored in the basement which will be shown as soon as I can find it (I’m still trying to make sure which box it’s in). And the “pink” on it is quite prominent when viewed from a distance. Up close it appears to be light, light brown, in short “pink”.
Looks good to me, nice build
nice job. Not a color you see very often! The frame looks solid!
Thanks again, guys.
vance: The story of the brown looking pink reminds me of when I was in the USAF, as a painter of aircraft, that at the time, we were still using FS 30219 Tan, on the RF-4Cs, and it would come out looking VERY pink, if it wasn’t properly mixed-up. Needless to say, it alway got painted over with the right shade of tan!
mucker: Thanks, but could you explain the (frame looks solid) comment? Just curious, I just didn’t understand what it was, you were saying. My fault !!
Later men!
Leon.
i love it !!!
nice work, Staff Sergeant !

It looks mighty darn good to me. As you said in your initial post, the colors change over time, especially with exposure to UV rays from the sun and other weathering factors.

Looks great, I’ve got a soft spot for that theater. Thanks for the look.[^]
