Deconstructing a gluebomb_Re-Glue With?

I just dis-assembled an old Airfix DB 601 engine I built thirty years ago.

Tube glue was used to assemble the kit and I am surprised how easily it came apart.

The engine was never a fully detaied component and appears intended for an electric motor so

I must scratch build many parts before re-assembling the engine as a separate display model.

Now,my question:

Re-glueing:

As the old tube glue weakened quite a bit over the last thirty years, what glue type will resist weakening with age?

Try Liquid glue such as MEK or my weapon of choice is EMA Plastic Weld, (not the same as Plastructs’ stuff)

This works by melting & welding the parts together.

Thank you for the information.

As I’ve been out of the hobby for some years, I was not aware of what might be available.

All I knew was that the liquid glues I used in the 1980s were not strong enough for what I wanted to assemble at that time.

I will “Google” suppliers in the US.

I would use CA (superglue) in the specific case you are talking about if it were me. I’m not surprised it fell apart so easy…tube glue was/is notorious for not “welding” the plastic…

Thanks, Manny, for the reminder.

I’m unsure if any parts I make for the plastic engine will end up as resin castings instead of styrene.

I also have CA on hand.

When I re-glue a de-constructed model which was originally “tubed” I use TENAX and TESTORS mainly.I have found that these work equally well.If you are going to use the good old super glue,check this out.There is a cyano glue put out by I believe “WELD-ON” It comes in a neat little bottle with a built in applicator.It is gel type and it works great on most of what I,ve used it on. tankerbuilder
