decals ontop of decals

[:)]Hello Modelers

I have a question about decals ontop of decals. I’m building a cf-18 with decals from a tiger meet. I have to apply the tigers stripe decals first then add regular cf-18 decals over top of them. I coated my model with gloss then applied the decals and used a decal sealer on them. If I now add the other decals overtop won’t adding more decals sealer affect the first set of decals? Any suggestions.

I woulda advised you to apply the decals in one sitting, nothing between them. I personally thing you will have problems with the decal set if you put the decals on top of the otheerones. I would suggest you spray another gloss coat in that area and let it set up then apply the second set of decals as usual, settings and all. you should have no problem with a gloss coat in between them.

ehh, woodbeck3, it could be me, but I don’t understand your awnser[:I]

first you say there shouldn’t be a layer between the two decal, but you end saying that you can have a layer of gloss between them?

could you please explain, because I’m running in to the same problem. [?][%-)]

You can apply decals on top of one another without having to add a second gloss coat if you wish I have doen it many times without a problem.

I recently did it on a A5M2a Claude that I built in 1/72 scale, three of the decals were two parts first was a silver rectangle and the second was Kanji lettering that had to sit on top of the silver rectangles. I gave the model a gloss coat and applied Micro-Set and the first decals, let them dry a bit while working on other decals than I came back and added the second set and some Micro-Sol. Both decals snuggled down really good. Once done I just applied a flat coat to seal the whole thing up.

The problem I found with adding a second coat of gloss before adding the second set of decals is it might build up the surfaces and you will not get a good look when trying to get the decal to snuggle down. [2c]

I’ve put decals on over other decals several times without any problems & without any additional top coating in-between.

Sorry for being unclear bro. I’ll clear that up. I would think that when you have one decal already down and have a setting solution on it and it has set, to put another decal on top of it and applying more setting solution would reactivate the first decal and that could cause you problems. Since you have one decal on there already shoot it with future and let that set then apply the second decal on. Sorry for being unclear… read much better in my head the first time [;)]. I think you need a barrier inbetween decals because of the setting solution on the first one, dont want your decals getting to soft.

I have let the first decal dry and use a conservative amount of Set/Sol with the second with no adverse effects…but I might’ve just been lucky [;)]

Hmm, I never thought about it when i had to decal over decals I just put on the decals in 1 setting then used solvaset over both and it worked out just fine.
