Decals for "United States Air Force" in 1/48

Does anyone know of a 1/48 decal sheet with “United States Air Force” on it? Just to make it harder, I REALLY need it in red but may be able to work some magic with a computer to make it red. Thanks.

I think Superscale used to make a sheet in black, you’d probably need to find a decal sheet for a A-26 or F-82 to get red letters…something Korean War era.

What particular bird are you wanting them for? If you can’t find the decals, An alternative is use Dry Transfer letters.

Gerald and Heinz von Hammer,

Thanks. I’m trying to make a B-29 assigned to the 581st Air Resupply and Communications Wing (ARCW) with a black underside and a black SA-16/HU-16 they also flew. They flew what we would call special operations missions during the Korean War. In addition to the red letters/numbers I need a 13 AF logo for the tail of the B-29. The Albatross should be a piece of cake – the only markings were tail numbers.

I’m coming up empty so far.

I guess dry transfer might work. Can you suggest a source for the dry transfer letters?

One other option might be to buy the font from TLAI Enterprises and try to make my own decals.

I’ve even thought of trying to find a decal sheet for an early variant of the B-36 and/or B-47 which carried the “United States Air Force” on the fuselage before they went to “U. S. Air Force.” Then I’d use some photo manipulation program to recolor a scan of the decal sheet and come out with red letters. That’s probably a last resort.

I’ve tried eBay looking for the old Micro Scale sheet of red US letters & numbers but can’t find one. Now I REALLY wish I hadn’t sold that very sheet a few years ago.

Even if I solve the letters/numbers issue, I still have that problem with the 13 AF logo. I can’t seem to find one that is of good enough quality that I can reproduce either.

The final resort is what I suspect many of us do: Move on to another project. However, as my wife often reminds me, I don’t know when to give up.

All thoughts appreciated.

The dry transfers I use are from Model Graphics in the model railroad section of my local hobby shop. You can try in yours, or you might try here:

Can’t help you with a 13 AF logo, unless you can find a way to make one with a printer and decal paper…
