Decals and Bare-Metal

I seem to be having a problem getting decals to adhere to Bare Metal Foil. Whats the secret?

HEY,
I dont know it, but there must be one, i have seen pictures with decals over bare metal foil.

Randy

a lot of people add glue to the decal water to end silvering maybe that helps. I want to know I’ve got a couple kits I want to bare metal

Iam surprised none of the experienced bare metal modelers on this site didn’t answer you. I’ve got some projects planned myself, F86 & Mig 15 1/32. I beleive your supposed to ‘seal’ the foil with a clear coat ie acylic future floor wax / microsol clear gloss/semi flat? before applying decals. I’ve heard the elmers glue thing too. adding some drops to the water soaking the decals? SOmebody give us the right answer. By the way did you oder any of the bare metal foil instruction books? were they any help?

Thanks mgtaylor. Will the clear coat dull the finish? Yes I do have a copy of the book - somewhere - The Bare Metal site has a download of the same information but I didn’t see anything about this problem. At first glance the decals seem to be tight but a touch of the finger will dislodge it. I have tried decal setting solution but this also did not help.

decals sit better on gloss-no silvering.

I’ve used decals (from the Italeri 1/72dn F-100 Super Sabre kit) on Bare Metal Foil, and didn’t have any problems at all. Didn’t even use a gloss coat after the decals were dry, either. That was about two years ago, and they’re still ok. They looked extremely milky on the clear portions of the decals when I initially slid them on, but, once dry, the milkiness went away, and the decals looked as though they were painted on. Maybe I just got lucky…
