Decal Setting Solutions & Future?

Has anyone ever used MicroSet when setting decals over a future gloss coat?
Any tips, techniques or experiences with adverse reactions to Future?

I’ve done it and had no problems at all. The Future had dried for a couple of days beforehand though, just in case. I also didn’t have any problems with solavaset or micro sol.

What technique do you use?

I soaked the decal for about 10 seconds then set it down on a non absorbent surface for a little while longer. While I was doing that, I brushed some Micro-Set on the model where I wanted the decal to go, and made sure there was enough there that I could slide the decal around a bit if I needed to. I put the decal down, got it exactly where I wanted it and pressed it down with a hunk of paper towel. The next day I brushed Micro-Sol or Solvaset on it depending on what I had right in front of me and just let that dry. If it needed it, I put multiple coats on until the decal got sucked down and bubble free. I didn’t have any problems at all, and the decals looked great. No issues with the Future whatsoever, but that might be due to the fact that the Future had a couple of days to cure really well first.

Have you had some problems with Micro-Set on the plane you Futured up recently?

Future can react with strong setting solutions and create a white haze. Especially if large quantities of setting solution is left on the surface. Do not be alarmed if this happens. Wait for the surface to dry completely then apply another coat of Future and the white will disappear. Do not try to correct while the surface is still wet or you will make things worse - wait for it to dry. This does not happen often, I have had it happen twice in nearly thirty years of modeling.

Not yet…but I just wanted to make sure before I take the plunge. I tested this technique out on a test piece, and nothing bad happened…so that seems promising.
I’ll let you guys now how it turns out!
Thanks for all help!
