Hello All:
I plan to apply a carbon fiber decal to one of my parts using MicroSol and after it has set up, apply another decal over it. My problem is this, is it doable? Should I use MicroSol on the second decal? Will using MicroSol for a second time on a preset decal bugger the whole thing? Should I be listening to the little voice saying “Danger, Danger Will Robinson!”?
Anybody try this? If so please give me a clue as to which direction to take.

I’ve done it, but not with carbon fiber decals. The key is to let the first one dry completely, then there’s no problem with the second one, even with Micro sol.

What is a carbon fiber decal? I’ve seen the ones in motorcycle kits intended to represent carbon fiber exhausts, but have I missed out on some leap of technology here?

As to carbon fiber decals, they replicate the carbon fiber on all F1 cars, they come in scales from 1/12 to 1/43. they are made by Scale Motorsport.

I have put other decals over scalemotorsports CF decals before without a problem. But, If you are worried about the CF decal being stuffed, apply a thin clear coat over it before you apply the other decal. If you apply Micro-sol to it, the CF decal underneath might wrinkle slightly again but as long as you dont touch it, it will settle down smoothly again.
BTW, if you’re finding that Micro-sol doesn’t have enough strength to pull those CF decals down onto curvy surface (Like I did), try some of Pollyscales Polly-Sol Decal softening solution. It’s much stronger than Micro-sol and will just about turn the decal into liquid. Just brush it on and let it do its job, and make sure you don’t touch the decal while it’s wet.

I’ve used it to place one decal over another and never had a problem. I did let the first one totally dry beforehand though. Have never seen or heard of carbon fiber decals before. Oh well, live and learn then die and forget it all.LOL.
I’ve also placed one decal over another or part thereof many times and never a problem and I don’t always let the first dry thoroughly before the second is applied, I might leave it an hour or so.
As always John test it with a couple of old decals on a piece of scrap.
