decal frustration!

i need to print some decals to put markings on that pink panzer i’m working on. i bought decal stock but i don’t have a printer. i have an inkjet printer at work but the forecast calls for rain and i don’t want to get caught out in the rain and traffic up on the mountain just to do this. it’s been sunny for the past 3 hours but i know that as soon as i get to work it’s going to start pouring with lightning flashing. curses! anyone know if permanent drafting pen ink sticks to decal paper?

Patience is a virtue. Just wait. Impatience is the # 1 killer of models (well #2, just after fire crackers).

I wouldn’t try the permanant marker on the decal paper, no clue if it would work or not. Also, your handwritten decals can’t look as good and sharp as computer printed ones. I would wait till you can get to a printer and do it right.

contrary to heavey, hand painted crosses, numbers, and symbols look mor realistic then sharp decals. Remember that after awhile, the crews repainted the stencils…

for me, it is annoying friends.
my friend threw my model to a wall and said “sheesh I was just trying to be funny! you gotta lessen your stress level!”
what is he a moron?! this is no lie. it smashed to pieces and I don’t even want to fix the barrel.

Wow, what kind of friend is he? I lessen my stress by modeling…

I’l give you that, to an extent. I wasn’t thinking about crosses, more like numbers and lettering, still think they would look better printed off. Most crews do/did not repaint by hand, but by using cut out stencils with an airgun or spray can, etc.

Some friend, I’d kick his a*%, then have him go buy me a new model!!!

a not very good one…
our playmate group ditched him cos almost all of them model and the ones who don’t model hates hims as well

Well, in the heart of Russia, Did the tank crew whip out their xacto knives, tamiya tape, badger airbrush, compressor and tamiya paint? I’ve got pics of crew painting the numbers on their tanks and balkencruezes painted on with brooms. Even d-day invasion stripes were hand painted with brooms… how about when groups got absorbed into larger divisions, they would repaint their numbers and symbols in the field. Don’t get me worng, I’m going at this with the worst case scenario. Sure they might have used their spray cans when they were available, but not 500 ft from the front…

did they have spray cans during ww2? i’m going to give it a try with the 005 micron pen. it’s not actually crosses and the numbers are going to be in a “stencil” font that i want to look kind of messy anyway.

btw jinithith2, pardon me for saying but your friend’s a douch. i actually had a friend like that, i’ve been doing my best to avoid him for the past 4 years.

I think this is one of those either or.

I can’t say that hand painted one’s look “more” realistic. I’ve seen vehicles that had hand painted markings, but not the majority. If that’s what you’re going for great. I got from the original ? goatmonkey was asking about the overall quality of the decals themselves and Heavy’s suggestion, I think was right on.I’ve looked at alot of reference photo’s over the years and the majority of the markings are pretty standard. I got one of a German crew using a stencil and spray gun in the field repainting their numbers.
It’s probably just like everything else, build what you like.[2c]

not so horrible for marker work is it? i traced some printouts and added a bit more noise
