I recently got a great deal on a still sealed Dragon 1/32 scale P51D on eBay. It arrived this past week, but immediately I noticed a couple of things. The kit is excellent. It’s highly detailed, and has lots of options, and extras like photoetched detail parts. It’s definitely the best $12 I have spent this year. BUT… The instruction sheet leaves a lot to be desired. I like to make sure the paint job on any kit I build is as accurate as possible, but the instructions for this kit omit a few things. The assembly steps refer to color numbers which are not defined in the color chart. Primarily its the fuselage interior. I know that most of the other kits I have done from this era use Green Zinc Chromate for all exposed interior surfaces, but a few don’t and I was wondering if anyone has done this kit and might have any advice. I have contacted Dragon, but have not received any response and I am itching to dive into this kit. The P51 is my favorite fighter aircraft of the era and this kit needs to do it justice. First off, great deal my friend and for $12 you say?? Wow… I myself have not built this but for the interior colour, it will be Interior green(A/N 611).
The green was applied to the side walls, the seat itself as well as the flooring… Just aft of the seat will be black which includes, head rest/ back of seat mounting, side walls, radio gear, mounting for radio.
As for getting in contact with Dragon, maybe try calling squadron if you do not hear back from them in a short period of time becasue maybe Squadron has another way of getting a hold of them…

Yes the Mustang cockpit floor was wood, but it was supposed to be painted in a balck anti skid paint, like wing walkways. At least from what I have read.
Knew I was forgetting something… The floor was in deed wood but they over painted it @ the factory with the interior green…
The wooden floor was installed on the Merlin powered variants which covered the wings structure. On allison powered Stangs, the floor was simply the top of the metal wing structure…
See, I have seen pix that showed the floor being painted black with the anti skid as well as being interior green…
The latter being Allison variants… There is one photo that I have and you can see the black and the interior green on the floor… However it is fairly worn through so you see the wood showing through as well…
I heard back from Dragon yesterday. Not much help. They know of the omissions in the directions, but they don’t have an updated sheet, and their support people had no idea… Thanks for the help. I was wondering if it was interior green or zinc chromate. Fortunately I have both on hand.
I’ll do a bit of texturing to the deck with flat black and some fine sand. It gives it the same semi gritty look as the wing walkways. It’s a very subtle effect, but it looks great.
