I recently started working on an Iron Shipwright’s USS Conyngham. My father served on this ship throughout the entirety of WWII.
From my research I believe there is an error in the instructions. Just forward of the 40mm at the forward end of the aft deck house are two round elevated platforms. The instruction call for 20mm oerlikon cannons. I don’t think that is correct. The specifications for the 1943 refit say there are 5 20mm gun. A line drawing I found for the USN records show all the 20s in other locations. But it does not say what these platforms are.
I’m working on it as it would have appeared after it’s 1943 refit. Thanks for the information, I suspected it was something like that based on its proximity to the 40mms.
I have downloaded the files. Thank you. I believe they are going to be very helpful. The ship has two. The kit did not come with any directors, however it appears they are available on line.
you are welcome.
i know there was 2 of those directors on that ship & class besides the photo showing them, i also have the plans for some of that class besides having almost 300 sets of Booklet of General Plans of the US Navy.saved on my computer.
