Well it seems the people have spoken!!! I’ll push this back till the summer time. Question though, and I’d like yalls opinion. Would you guys prefer say a start of June or July 1st running to the end of the year, or starting on August 27th and running for 6-8 months? I’m not stuck on the August 27th date, as the entire year is still makes 75 years of jet flight. So any and all suggestions are appreciated!!
And devil dawg, no limit at all, heck make a whole squadron of Sabres or Thunderjets or whatever tickles your fancy!!! Heck, I might have to jump the gun and do one early and before the official start. Just, of course, keep us updated and share your progress.
Just one suggestion. How about a start date of August 27th running to July 26th 2015. That’s the date of the first jet engagement. Or if you don’t want it quite as long, 19th April, the date of the formation of the first jet unit.
I like the sound of those dates. My plate is pretty ful as well and this is one that I really do not want to pass up.
As much as I hate to do it, because I’m so excited to get a nice shiny jet or two up on the flight line, I think August 27th '14- June 26th '15 would be better for the GB. It seems those dates will make room a lot more participation, and that would be great. I’ll provide the rest of the details within the next day or two, and have them posted up on here and the GB list page. I only hope people don’t forget about this in the 6 months till the end of August!!!
That sounds great. I hope you don’t mind if I make another suggestion. I would hold off on an actual build thread until closer to the start date, say no more than 2 months before. Otherwise you run the risk of either a) if falls back lots of pages or b) it gets clogged with 7 months of discussion before the build even starts.
You still have this thread where people can discuss there builds, kits, paint schemes etc and people can sign up to in the meantime. And I would still put it in the schedule, I put the Stuka GB in there in Oct and only started the build thread a couple of weeks ago.
And I don’t think you have to worry about people forgetting. I think those who enter GB’s here fall into 2 groups. Those who only enter 1 or 2 at a time and will jump in when they know they have the time, and those, myself included, who sign up for lots, and most of us seem to list down the GB we are in some where and get to then in which ever order we like to work.
Hope you don’t mind the suggestion.
Well pencil me in, with a start in the summer.
(may have to remind me though, as I’ll be fully involved in softball season by then.)
I’m not sure if I will get much done but I have a pair of R/M F model Sabers for my son and me, a Pro Modeler D and an Airfix Sea Vixen waiting in the wings. I’d like to throw in with the pair of F’s and let my 8 year old follow along with the thread. If life co-operates, I may jump into the Dog or the Vixen.
Whoops! I missed page 2! I’ll likely start the F’s long before August and may get into the Dog before then too. I would still have the Vixen and also a long forgotten Matchbox Sea Venom that I had forgotten about but it was well under way when I last left off.

I’m in
Well it olny makes sense that no more than 3 hours after I decide to put the start off until August that the F-80 I ordered shows up in my door. I could alomost hear that little box laughing at me, knowing I had to put him to the side for another 7 months. Mean, spiteful little devil, that box… Bish, I don’t mind the suggestions one bit. This is the First GB I’ll be hosting, so I’ll take any advice I can get. Vance, I know how you feel. I umpire baseball, so things can get real hectic real fast come summer time. Screaminhelo, first, let me say I think its great you are getting your son involved in this at such a young age. That’s about the age my I started tinkering with models with my dad myself. Although he did most of the work, I felt like I had done something special when it was finished. Second, its a shame your fleet of Sabres might already be complete by August, (still feel free to show us your completed work if you’d like!!!) but it makes me VERY happy to know that might open up time fore you to do a Sea Vixon!! I think the Sea Vixon is the most beautiful aircraft ever put into service by the Fleet Air Arm, and I would love love love to see her put together in this GB! Tempestj
Tempestjohnny, I’m right there with you. I’ll be putting together a ProModeler Thunderjet myself after I get done with the Shooting Star.
lol, on behalf of the players who will be giving you grief during the 2014 season, I apologize in advance!! [:P]
I was inspired to resume work on the Sea Venom yesterday, so, if I actually get it finished, I’ll post it as a teaser closer to the start date.
Much appreciated vance. Now do you coach a fast pitc team, or do you play slow pitch? Sceaminghelo, that sounds great. Really looking foward to seeing your work!
I’ve done the fastpitch thing occasionally and enjoy it, but slowpitch is more prevalent around here. More teams, more players, more competition etc. Played on 2 teams, plus a tournament, last summer, 70 games in the books. I love it, but it certainly eats into potential bench time.
Im pretty interested ill be in with a 1/48 me262 A-1a
Hi Everyone,
I’d like to participate in this GB…I should be ready by August and have lots of early jets here to choose from…looking forward to it!
Just got the old monogram f-80 from Michaels with 40% off coupon for $12
That’s a great kit. Seated pilot, full engine, jack stand for the rear fuselage, bombs or napalm war load, choice of tip tanks, gun bay…
