"Danube Winter" Completed

Here’s an in progress photo of my next piece:

Looks like great scratchbuilding so far. Is that miniart’s new T-70?

SMART, [tup]

Awesome work on the bridge…is that a “captured” tank w/ German crew? What brand of figs?

WOW–this one’s gonna be cool!!! [:P]

Thanks everyone! I have always wanted to do a bridge scene and its been fun…the Mini-Art captured T70 kit goes together well, and comes with a crew in winter garb.

I put a coat on the bridge and started on the ground work:

I added a coat of Modge Podge on the water which dries clear.

Very nice…did you use a pic for a ref on the bridge? Are those german troops w/ a captured Russian tank???

Thank you Eric.

I found a wooden trestle bridge I used as a reference for mine. The tank is a MiniArt captured T70 with crew in winter clothes.

Added a wash of black and drybrushing of sand on the bridge:

The work on that bridge is mind-blowing! Can you tell me the steps you took when painting it?

Steve

Thanks Steve.

I do a relatively simple paintjob…in the first painted progress photo, you can see the base coat of chocolate brown. Next step, I put a heavy wash of thinned black paint over the entire bridge. Once dry, I put a light drybrushing of sand over all surfaces. Any place where I overdid the drybrushing, I’ll place a wash of thinned black to tone down the areas, and I will rewash over the bolts to add depth. I also used cheap acrylic paints from Michaels…bought them on sale for .98 a piece for a 2oz. bottle.

Oh yeah, very interesting concept. Enjoying it immensly thus far [:)]

This builds HOT! HOT! HOT! Fantastic bridge work! Are you in the Army Corps of Engineers?

Bridge is looking great. The foliage also looks fantastic on it’s own, and it looks as though it really fits the scene, something some people don’t always seems to notice. You can have great looking foliage, but unless it fits the environment of the dio, it just looks weird. Your scrubby bushes and grass look perfect for a hillside next to a river.

very well laid out,a lot of work in that and its paid off [tup]

Very nice![^][^]

[:)]

Thank you Ian, Bodge and Stickman.

Adding snow using thinned Modge Podge and micro balloons:

That is too cool! What did you use for the base/groundwork? It looks like styrofoam, but I’m not too sure. I am looking forward to seeing this one complete, and it looks like you are moving along pretty quickly on it.

Looking great…I use the micro-balloons as well for snow as they are much finer than the Scenics snow, although lately they seem hard to find…Almost hated to see the snow cover the lovely colors of the bridge, water and greenery…5 stars

Beautiful work, man. Bridge looks like it got darker… more washing?

This truly does look wet, slushy, and cold. Not freezing cold, like blizzard weather. But the kind of humid-cold that accompanies the beginning of the thaw.
