Ya know, I need therapy. I’ve been posting kits for sale on ARC and Hyperscale because I have no room to display them all when done and out of the blue I bought a Trumpeter 1/48 RA-5C Vigilante. Talk about too big to display!! I don’t really even know anything about this kit except what I’ve read in the last couple days. This is all your fault, you and your great builds, forum friendship, blah blah blah. I’m going home and drink a beer…or 6. [t$t] Chris
Therapy? Pfffttt… NO kit is too big to display as long as you have a wall or a ceiling, lol…
A 1/48th RA-5 ain’t THAT big… Kinda long perhaps, but not much trouble in the wingspan department…
Try a 1/48th PBY or B-29… THAT’S wingspan, lol…
It’s a tad bigger than an F-4 in the same scale.
I have been poking at one of these kits for a while. The rear fuselage needs to have a prop or something glued inside so the tailcone fits properly, and with minimal putty. The overly complex trumpeter engines are in there, and a pain in the butt for detail nobody will ever see.
The ejection handles are a bit oversized, the cockpit is otherwise great. I think there are some shape issues that the rivet counters have issue with, but its not a bad kit.
I have a general rule before I go near a hobby shop…
I ask myself which 3 kits I want the most… and if those arent in stock, then I dont buy anything… except paint or a hard to find kit… Which would explain my Hasegawa stash… my SAAF Hurricane, P-38, A-4 (Blue angels), and CL 13 Mk 6 Sabre.
All very hard to come by in sunny SA… but generally my rule works quite well…
I have walked into a shop a number of times with intent to buy… but not finding any of the 3 kits, or anything especially hard to locate… I’ll walk out empty handed.
I always make a note of any kits I may be interested in, then hit the interwebs for details/reviews of said kits… and if I’m still interested, I’ll replace one of the kits on my list of 3.
That and the generally rediculous pricing of models here keeps me in check. Most of the time.
